I agree with M160 on bottom snare with something else on top. It can be really nice there, and out of harm's (stick's) way. Man, I?m so addicted to the sizzle of the snares on the bottom mic. I have had a few pairs of small dia. Condensers, but the Shure ksm 141's were my first and favorites, even up against more expensive mics. They work on so many sources. Having one as a mono overhead in omni can sound really great.

No speaking from from very much experience here, but is it possible that what ever value you may gain in a Neve over time, you might lose in upkeep?
