a final two penny nail in the coffin of this argument - I would imagine that the infamous letter-writer has installed software on a computer. Almost every piece of software uses an installer with ZIP or similar compression. The need for bit-identical decompression is even greater with software than ...

the Precision Limiter does not upsample http://www.uaudio.com/products/software/preclim/index.html it must have a higher latency than the typical uad plug though Definitely the clicks and pops are not coming from any kind of clock battles. Very likely it's an issue between the buffer settings of the...

for the peculiar AT rubber band things which actually hold the mic, which by the way are hugely annoying to me, you can use some broccoli rubber bands, I think.

I really like the AKG shockmount for the C3000b

oh, scratch that. What about the m-audio profire lightbridge? The only thing is you'd have to kludge smpte with some kind of midi adaptation. I can't vouch for their drivers, though.

I don't see anything which satisfies your requirements. It looks like you can get 16 ADATs in firewire (eg presonus firestudio), or 24 ADATs with PCI (eg motu 2408mk3).

I always recommend RME - their drivers rock, and their hardware is solid.

fuzzplus is good

Cyanide 2 is scarily awesome

The Samplitude FX suite demo works without limitations in 44.1, but you can't save settings. It has some great sounding distortion. It's essentially refined versions of the digitalfishphones stuff.

Retroband Lite is free and awesome.

all converting 16 bit to 24 does is add eight empty bits. If you recorded at 16 bits, then the quality of your converter at 16 is the only factor to consider. I suppose someone could be into the sound of dithering a 16 bit recording before mixing it... Depending on your software, but I imagine all t...

oh man. I don't know if the capsule is OK in that mic, but I really like my Royer-modded MXL 2001. I'm sure it's just expectation bias or something, but I feel like that thing just has some great grabby grooviness to it. You throw out everything but the capsule and housing to make the new mic, and i...

No, I think he's great. It's just that in my experience his records don't compare to that one night where I couldn't believe what was happening before me. It was Cameron Brown and the Hear and Now, with Sheila Jordan on voice, David Balou on trumpet, and I can't remember the drummer. Dewey Redman wo...

you can hear a joyful squall on The Sign of 4, a double-duo with Derek Bailey, Gregg Bendian, and Paul Wertico. Also, it doesn't have Pat Metheny, but the Gregg Bendian / Nels Cline version of Interstellar Space is pretty awesome. I want to hear that Dewey Redman collaboration - that guy blew me awa...

you recorded that in your parents' basement? Sounds really good on my shitty computer speakers at low volume. Are you saying you recorded those drums in a basement? I like em. But the strings are software, right? The songs are not really my cup of tea. I guess they're kind of like Sheryl Crow songs,...
