There were a handful of plug-ins that got heavy use in mixing this album, but above all the one that saved my ass was the Kush UBK-1 . Over half of the time I used compression, it was done with the UBK-1. It's a great sounding plug-in, and strange as it may sound, it made me LIKE mixing this record....

My New Album! Self-produced. Dark songwriting. (now w/video)

This album has been in the works for quite a while, and I'm happy to say it's finally out! Please have a listen to "Where the Knives Meet Between the Rows" here: http://tapeop.leighmarble.com/images_pub/Leigh_Marble-Knives_cover-200px.png http://music.leighmarble.com/album/where-the-knives-meet-betw...

It's definitely not a ribbon! I've had one of those Wollensak mics for ages, it's either just an old dynamic, or maybe a crystal, I don't remember. Here's the sound of it pretty clearly - the vocals on this track were sang through it: http://f0.bcbits.com/z/11/14/1114638554-1.jpg http://music.leighm...

I haven't listened to that album in years, I'll have to pull it out and see how it's sounding to my ears nowadays. I remember reading an interview about it years ago, maybe in Guitar Player?

Also, it may help to get folks to chime in if you put the artist's name in the title of the thread.

The Zoom R16 looks great for portable/easy multitracking! Now if it just had a lightpipe input, so I could pick my own converters, I'd be sold. But it doesn't look like it does...

Joel: you should really get that arm looked at! ;)

In seriousness, though, I just had a little listen through some Santana tracks, and the lead tone isn't always all that clean... If you have the Spotify, have a listen through the Top 5 here: http://open.spotify.com/artist/6GI52t8N5F02MxU0g5U69P But that's a matter of opinion, what sounds clean to o...

The Boston Museum of Science has (or used to have, when I was growing up) an exhibit to demonstrate this very phenomenon. It really does jam up your circuitry, and stop you dead about three words into a sentence.

To all the doubters: if the Radio Shack 7-band blackface EQ doesn't exist, then how did my buddy send his to Black Lion Audio a few weeks ago to get modded?

Still trying to get some before and after audio clips from him.
