monitor question - please help
Just found a couple of options for new studio monitors at a used hi-fi place 'round the corner. I'm seriously considering buying one of these pairs and would love a lil tape-op feedback. One pair is the JBL 4206's. I like jbl speakers quite a bit, and use some bookshelfs currently for mixing. The ot...

Re: "that's... crazy!" - utter BS claims by GC ass
Her in ATL, we have several GC's. Before they moved in, one of the stores they now occupy was Rhythm City. They used to have a pretty well-documented scam that went something like this: I called, looking for a Yamaha 4-track that, at the time, ran around $425. I go through several transfers, telling...

Re: Mbox SPDIF question
i.m coming from an analog world, although i've been messing around with pro tools since the first FREE version. i'm loving the mbox, but have basically no idea what spdif would be used for other than hooking up a dat, etc. do some keyboards have spdif out as well? or what about an ADAT? could you tr...

Re: Mbox SPDIF question
i'll piggyback a question on your thread in hopes for a response - hope you don't mind.... wondering if the spdif in will allow, like some other daw interfaces, more than two simultaneous inputs. in other words, could you use the xlr/line inputs in addition to the spdif together to record 3, or even...

Re: Great Pedals and Stomp Boxes
I keep both the Real Tube and Tube Driver close at all times. I think they are both made by Tubeworks? Haven't seem 'em around in a while. Between the two there is every shade of natural sounding distortion - and with both in-line can get silky, ultra-controllable feedback. One caveat - they've GOT ...

Re: just spent 236 bucks on cables ouch
the other day, i was recording a track for a comp with a band and one of them asked me "what's your favorite thing you've gotten for the studio?" (caveat - we're talking home project studio here). i replied "the cables". A couple of years ago, An electrical engineer friend who was moving out of the ...

Re: Bellari mod
forgive my newbie-ism - i have an mp105 laying around, and i'm really excited about the mod! quick question - do i need a tool of some kind to remove / insert the opamps, or do they just pop out when picked up? want to make sure i have everything i need before i take it our of rotation for a little ...

Re: Loveless is quiet...and loud
i always thought that siamese dream (smashing pumpkins) took the aesthetic from loveless, but cleaned up the frequencies quite a bit... i refer to loveless all the time when mixing in my realtively lo-fi bedroom set-up - not really for "audio" reference, but more for "how out-sounding can a record b...

Re: G3 or P3 for budget home studio
i'd like to piggyback my question on this one - i have he opportunity to buy a g3 blue and white tower - 400mhz, large amount of ram, fast 72gb and 9gb drives installed (the guy who owns it used it for final cut), and a superdrive, for a really good price. i also have a 500mhz ibook, so i was thinki...
