FS: Tascam FW-1884 interface / control surface

I'm selling my Tascam FW-1884 interface/control surface. It has served me well for the past 5 years or so. 8 channel firewire interface and control surface with moving touch-sensitive faders. Totally awesome for mixing in the box. Zero-latency input monitoring makes tracking easy. I've been using it...

Re: Dumb Pots/Knobs Question

is the difference in shaft diameter only based on whether the shaft is plain or knurled? Nope. There are two common plain shaft diameters: 6mm and .25 in. .125" are also out there, but less common. From what I've seen, knurled shafts tend to all be about the same diameter (6mm), but sometimes they ...

I've got a 25VA Antek power transformer in my 4-channel 312 rack and it's plenty of juice. I've seen people get away with 20VA, no problem. You'd need about 20VDC after rectification to get an LM317 to produce a stable 18VDC. 20/1.414 = 14VAC, plus a few volts for the full-wave rectification diodes,...

The easiest way to do this is to set up a giant induction loop around the performance area and hand out a bunch of IEMs to everybody. Discussion here: http://jwsoundgroup.net/index.php?/topi ... -neckloop/

You should be able to rent everything you need for this.

Re: there must be someone using these!

BUMP - I could really use some "crowdsourced" info about these! The noise in question sounds like a softer version of the noise you would get if you put your lips together in a trumpet embrochure and blow through them (sometimes called a raspberry), and seems to be localized in the area of the XLR ...

Probably not enough drive current to push the transformer.

Re: Homemade summing box?

Has anybody tried this? Tons of gear "sums" signals together like this internally. It's called passive summing. It's a perfectly fine way to do it, assuming there's some sort of makeup gain available afterwards if you need it. An even better way to do it is to add an active summing stage so you've ...

Curious as to why you would want to replace a glass fuse with a PTC in the first place? Hard to access? Are you having to replace it all the time? There are much better solutions for both of those. Speaking with a few years of experience designing 12VDC power systems filled with PTC fuses, they usua...

Any wire should work and it doesn't have to be 22 AWG. Do you have a chunk of old mic cable? Strip it down and use the two interior conductors. Just make sure to twist them together. Even a chunk of lamp cord or speaker wire would work in a pinch. Or the interior conductors out of an IEC power cabl...

Are you sure it's not the preamp? Strange that both mics would make the same noise. They're not sharing a common power supply or something are they?

The dimensions you quoted are external dimensions. You won't fit that edcor in there. I just measured a 125B I have here.

When I built my NYD reamp boxes, I used metal single-gang electrical boxes from the hardware store, and a metal single-gang cover to close it up.

I should also mention that all 7 of the original NPN transistors in each channel were replaced with MPSA18 transistors for lower noise.
