Re: Long Snakes

OK, I'm looking at this guy: http://www.audiopile.net/products/Stagelink_snakes/PSPX-16-4/PSPX-16-4_cutsheet.asp Besides the obvious (mics) I want to be able to run DI's, headphone signal (to a headphone amp) and a monitor send (to be hooked up to a PA when apropriate) Will this do it? I guess I'm l...

Re: Long Snakes

OK sweet, so 100ft will be ok. This now raises 2 other questions: 1. what's the best way to go, manufacturer/value wise? 2. any suggestions on how to route this thing through 3 stories of a house? My mental images see it running alongside the staircase, or cutting holes through floors (although I wo...

Long Snakes

I've heard stories about how I'll have to deal with interfearance and all, but wanted to hear real world experiences/knowledge on long distance snakes. The plan: Run the control room/computer/etc in my bedroom on the third floor. Use a 100ft snake to run lines from the bedroom to the basement. I'm t...

Re: Anyone using that theremin reviewed in the newest Tape O

Ah! My buddy just picked up an antenna-based theramin. Very cool, very unpractical.

Anyone know of good uses for this thing? I can hear certain effects from it.. the microtones it produces is fun too.

Anyone know of a tune where it's been used?

Re: first mic?

Sounds to me like you need a condenser, considering the sensitivity you're looking for. I like the AT4040, it's around $300. I wouldn't bring it to a show, though. What's the push to bring it to live situations? Having a 58 will just duplicate what the club--most likely--already has.

Yeah man, that's me and james. The Pure Ground stuff is our experimental, mostly analog (in terms of instrumentation) ambient/meditative/weird music project.

We have a few more tunes up .. checkout the link in my sig.

Re: Micing guitar cabs - 2 mics = phase problems?

Since I'm new to the phase game, I don't trust my ears to actually detect it.. sort of a mythical thing at this point that I'm trying to avoid. Yes, Phase cancellation isn't a myth, I know -- but I really wish I could hear it and know it!

Thanks for the suggestions. the 3:1 thing sounds useful.

The bathroom is great for ambiance in a weirdo spoken word setting. I'm working on this now with some prose written on a train.

Yep, I'm gonna try to record a train once I get a hand on a portable recorder.

Re: Recording Paranormal Activity

We picked up a random 'scream' when I stuck a mic out the window during a rainstorm.. check it out: http://www.rockzone.com/mp3/Pure%20Ground%20-%20Scream%202.mp3 It's about 40 seconds into the clip. Hence the name. I live in the suburbs, you can hear cars passing by - but I've never heard a scream ...

I'd like to use the control pads of an MPC with my computer, is this my best bet? What software is best to run as a digital sampler?

Micing guitar cabs - 2 mics = phase problems?

Working on a hardcore project and it's come down to recording guitars. I had been throwing a 58 (don't have any 57's at my disposal) in front of the grill but the sound is too tinny and has no beef. I've been getting more and more into micing things further away. What I've done on the overdubs is us...
