Re: Triggering a sine wave from a kick track

How do you do this in Pro Tools? Pro Tools has an rtas plugin called Signal Generator. Put this on its own aux track and put the Expander Gate plugin after it. Click external key on expander gate and select an unused bus for key input. Go to the kick (or whatever instr) track and open a bus send wi...

Re: Analog to Adat Lightpipe converters?

Don't mean to fan the flames, but why not 44.1/24 and buy the Tango24 for pretty damn cheap and have very clear i/o?

If you can hear an appreciable difference between 44 and 96 (including the down conversion to 44/16 for cd) then you have better ears than I do.

Re: how long have you been doing this / where are you at?

You want to know who's really starving? Staff engineers, or "seconds". All the staff engineers that I know made more money than I did this summer. Trust me. This has been a tough summer for freelancers in this area. At least when I had staff jobs I knew I had "X amount" coming in every week. Chris ...

oh and pay for my cable bill. And you think you're broke. My music related tattoo: TOP RAMEN accross my knuckles. I've been recording for 7 or 8 years, but finally got a commercial spot 2 years ago after a stint in LA at recording school and as in intern at studio there. You want to know who's real...

Re: Impossible to edit PTLE tracks w/o hardware attached?

Also there used to be all kinds of hacked hardware-free PT versions on the warez circuit (yes, mac included)... not that I condone that kind of thing, but since you've already bought it once  I worked at a studio where they had bought all the plug ins but ran the cracked versions to avoid the...

Re: Best way to spend $

Thats great. I bet the build quality on those is excellent and that's worth something but not what they're asking for them. A quick google search found a 10 foot 1/4" connector for $90! It just makes me mad that peope really fall fall for stuff like single direction speaker cables (with arrows just ...

But are you joking? Silver cables in a project studio is the biggest waste of money I've ever heard. Even if I did think the made a difference (below 100khz) I wouldn't put them in my budget before acoustics.

Re: Micing a kick drum with a speaker?

Never really like the results for kick, but this method works great for bass guitar. It could be lore but I belive most of the motown bass guys like James Jameson were recorded with a a bass spaeker as mic. I've alos heard that "rain" and "paperback writer" were recorded this way s well. I rigged up...
