Bunker 2.0 in Sonic Scoop!

A nice piece by Janice in SonicScoop today! http://www.sonicscoop.com/2012/01/25/brooklyn-2-0-the-new-bunker-studios-offers-next-level-recording-experience/ Janice stopped by the studio a few times during the construction process, and it was great to finally be able to sit down and chat a bit now th...

thanks justin! good to see you the other night, thanks for coming to the party! as for the choice, it was exactly for that reason: choice. i wasn't trying to go for an idealistic minimal setup, but i wanted to have aspects of different drum sounds that i can combine in the mix. didn't have enough ti...

i'm in the middle of tracking the new London Souls record, and a huge part of the drum sound is a pair of m160's about 10' in front of the kit, and a 4038 over the drummer's right shoulder. in a room that sounds as good as our rhythm room, that's a drum sound right there. having some other mics up c...

fraudulent client alert, NYC area

FYI. this guy sucks. pulled this shit us, studio g, who knows who else on here.

first couple sessions he paid, then it got weird. apparently this is nothing new for him, so don't work with him unless you want to lose time and money.

Yeah, some long ass screws. Not quite an inside out wall, but I guess the concept would be similar.

All the rooms will get slats.

puts the furring too far apart to anchor the slats well... with a slat at a 45 degree angle, with a 4x8 sheet you'd have almost 6' of slat that aren't nailed anywhere.

1/2" OSB plywood was the first layer, then two layers of 5/8" sheetrock... the OSB was to ensure plenty of solid points to screw the 2x2 furring in for the OC703. also, with a number of barrel roll ceilings, it's crucial to be able to put a LOT of screws into a piece of 5/8" sheet rock when you're f...

drum room walls were about 2 days... not too hard, just had to get a good system together and have the right tools. after 6 months of carpentry, our chops are pretty together! the studio is fully functional in the a room... just doing finish work now. and it sounds absolutely amazing. the drum sound...

sometimes i do, sometimes i don't. i usually listen and then determine if it might sound better/more interesting with no/some/a shit ton of compression.

drummer/music/room dependent.

crazy talk, i know.

8-10 is best... i'll stretch it if it's happening, or if we're a few takes away from completing a vocal or a guitar part or something, and the musician is still working well... but honestly, even at 8 hours, i'm in better shape than most musicians... very few have the 'hanging chops' to be useful in...
