Go used. I got 2 old switchcraft long frame patchbays off ebay for a little over $100. That's 96 points for less then what you would pay for those crappy ones they sell at GC. I did however have to remove about an inch of wire off every solder point (288 points) because whoever previously removed it...

I used to do horn sections and gang vocals this way, primarily because I only had a couple sets of headphones. Like everyone says, it works fine as long as you don't have too much bleed into the mic... I remember a 18dB rule or something about this, If a sound is 18dB below the music it is basically...

Man I had 3 Altec 1567a mixers from a predominant church in LA and I didn't even think of trying to use God to help boost the price of the two I sold! What was I thinking?

Dont forget the Daking console: http://www.daking.com/New%20Site%20by%20Juan%20Carlos/images/console.jpg Drool inducing though they may be...are any of these companies actually going to sell these things, if and when they ever make it to market? How much of a market is there for a 16X8X2 mixer that...

What kind of strings were they? It could have something to do with the metals in the string and heat of quickly pulling the string out / static electricity. Is your friend part of the occult?

A shelving EQ is often a more gentle curve, and it's amount of cut is controlled by the engineer. I low cut filter is usually more drastic and steep and often is an on or off system. Some filters give more options but still usually are more 'extreme' than a shelving EQ. I see Filtering as being way...

I've done the whole... Tape at double speed > Aux send > cheep old amp with spring reverb in bathroom > Mic in shower > Tape ...a few times. Playing / recording the verb at double speed gives you a really dark huge room sound when you play it back at regular pitch. It makes a 10 x 8 bathroom sound l...

You could always try compressing a little to tape, that way you can use one comp on every track, just make sure you don't over compress because there is no undo once you've committed it to tape.

Or put a cassette deck on an aux send... About a year ago I was working with this electro pop band in PT and they had one slower ballad song that I wanted to dirty up so I decided to mix it down to a cassette. I pulled my cassette recorder out of storage and was shocked at how bad cassettes sound :...

"Transparent" is the new "Warm"

I have been noticing the overuse of the word transparent at work a lot. I remember thinking of GML stuff or Apogee converters as transparent, but now everything is transparent. I even heard some guy call a e609 transparent. I kinda understand the term being used on a comp or something where the line...

Just hearing the name Track Master Pro makes me laugh. WTF is a track master? Something that runs slave tracks? I would assume this one has balanced XLR ins and outs to make it Pro compared to the old Track Master that has 1/4" I/O. I guess Focusrite (which sounds like an optics company to me) just ...

I'm not saying high pass everything, I just think there are occasions where you have voices where there is nothing you really need in the 200 Hz range. So why not get rid of crap that is getting masked over anyways. I just hate not being able to use a really high HPF in the studio like you get in a ...

I really learned about HPF doing live sound, and I love the fact that a lot of consoles let you take it all the way up to 600 Hz, and you can low pass stuff all the way down to 5KHz. I really wish recording consoles let you do more with extreme high pass filtering. There is so much crap between 120 ...
