dare I say it if you are just starting out a mackie board and a good preamp/eq can be something to consider. You can always sell the mackie when you upgrade

you can get a smaller soundcraft spirit recording 16 for 600-800$ if you search around.
not modular but reliable and clean. will work great with a 8-16 track

If I were you I would get a console that was made more recently like a soundcraft ghost or spirit or a allen heath gl series
the sytem 8's are old and only have 3 aux's and the 600 will need new caps most likely.

I insured for 500 but man what a bummer. always insure for more cuz they will lose shit. Mine had a nice old 312 card in and they dont make them with those no more.

The focusrite compounder can be found for ok $$ used and it's sounds nice.
has a huge feature that makes kick and bass sound big.
Also the ADR gemini easy rider compressor's are cool
zep/who stlye compression for 200$. they turn up on ebay

these were lexicon's first try at a cheap reverb
they were made cheaply and are getting old now.
if you can find one the lxp15 is much better and has many more parameters
