Re: Granddad's old wire recorder

Looking at the schematic, it seems like I can use the same numbering system they use for their schematic and connect pin 3 on their connector to pin 3 of the XLR and so on... It looks like pin 3 of the input actually bypasses the first gain stage, and pin 2 utilizes it. so it's not a balanced input...

depending on what material the tray is made of, possibly add a brace across the front, say a piece of 1x3, underneath it. oriented vertically. If that doesn't make sense I could do a sketch but I bet you know what I am saying. are you planning to rabbet the edges of the sides to make the joints or w...

man, those songs and the "related videos" links on youtube sent me on a serious nostalgia trip. seen names of bands I haven't thought about in years. I'll be no help on the pedals though.

are things grounded willy-nilly to the chassis all over the place or is there a star ground point where a bunch of wires all make a chassis connection? if it's point wired and the grounding is messy you'll wind up with hum. sometimes it takes trial and error with grounding to get things right- I rec...

Don't rule out Pilsen and Bridgeport. Both are right to the southwest of downtown. Pilsen's actually closer to the "action" but due to the wierdness of the CTA and highways, I find it a lot easier to get in and out of Bridgeport. I moved there a few years ago and totally love it. It's very affordabl...

You'll almost certainly need to replace the electrolytic caps in the power and bias supplies. The pots are probably going to be shot as well. Are the wires you say have come loose, are they the ones that go to and from the reverb tank and speaker, or are they inside the chassis? I overhauled a baske...

google "Fender Amp Field Guide". It's good if you don't know exactly which version of an amp you have or what year it was made, it describes the various changes to models over the years and distinguishing features. There are schems for most Fender amps there.

Better might be to mod the amp to allow reduction of the heater voltage on the power tubes. Don't you mean plate voltage? The heater needs to be at 6.3v for a typical guitar amp tube regardless of the operating point of the tube. some commercial amps have half-power switches that drop the plate vol...

Just a word of caution to those considering removal of 2 power tubes from a 4 tube amp: this will affect bias as well as output impedance and will cause variations in current draw as well as voltage variations all over the circuit. Twins are pretty robust so you most likely will not have any damage ...

2: TRS, unless you'll be playing alot of AD&D Hi, first post, long lurk, you know the drill... anyway this particular comment sparked a question I have always wondered about how "real engineers" do it. First off, I apologize if the above comment was simply a correction of TSR, and not an advocation...
