cool, thanks for the tip Mike. Pre fader was definitely the button that fixed the initial thing I was asking about, and I'll throw your post fader trick on the palette too, thanks!

Right. That or creating another stereo bus for the compressed drums. This gives you the chance to create a separate mix to send to your compressor (for instance, maybe you're pretty happy with the kick sound and level in the original track, and don't see the need to send as much or any to compresso...

Dan yeah I hear ya, I was thinkin only doin that when it's for individual tracks, like a bass, that would be the way most people would do it right, just duplicate the bass? For drums I'd imagine duplicating the aux stereo bus that the kit is routed to would probably the starting point for most peopl...

Thanks guys, that sounds like the one, will try it when I get home. Also I remembered I can also just duplicate the audio track or aux as well and work parallel like that.

Parallel compression q

Sorry if this is a dumb question from a beginner in parallel compression land here but, in PT9, is it not possible to solo just the sound of the parallel compressed Aux track (without the original sound mixed in), or are they innately tied together all the time, and you always have to hear both? tha...

NOw, as to what exactly this has to do with inserting a plug in on your Master Fader... well, Mixing is Mixing, Mastering is Mastering, the two should NEVER EVER be done at the same time, and preferably, Mastering goes AFTER Mixing. Cheers Oh yeah, thanks Nick, to clarify when I said "mastering typ...

Video in PT9: weird issue

I'm working with a short film, around 20 minutes long, doing some sound editing in PT9. It seems like everytime I import a new audio file to the session something very odd happens to the video, lets say it's exactly 20 minutes long. What happens is the length of the video stays the same, but, the vi...

PT: inserts on master fader channel, bad, good, whatever?

I was just browsing the avid forum and I saw someone mention not putting inserts on their master fader, might have been out of context or maybe the discussion was centered around mastering or something, but, just thought I'd check with those in the know. . . for demoing purposes, is there anything w...

Fun coincidence, in Fuzz's post about PT stems on a console, he mentions Pensado's Place, a bunch of videos made by Dave Pensado, among other things about mixing pop. In this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t_t17Pf3a2A&feature=relmfu you get a good look at how he's mixing a pop track, and lo a...

Also, mentioned it above but I want to get, for starters, one Pro Tools guide, kinda felt my away around PT in the dark for the last few years, would love to have a book that I can turn to for almost any PT related thing, from what basic controls/icons do to more advanced mixing in the box technique...

Desert Island Mixing/Recording/PT9 reference books 2011

Did some searching around and found some older threads from years back, but didn't see any relatively recent ones. I was looking to buy a desk reference book or two on mixing for my little home studio and was just wondering what some favorites are for people here. Just saw the review for Mixerman's ...
