I've been looking into this as well. Iomega's got one I'm considering, in their HDD line, 120 GB for $250, 7200 rpm. I'd be using it for Pro Tools work.
My experience with Iomega in the past has been good. I've carried a lot of data on Zip disks, and never had them fail in 8 years.

But's that's what's cool about it. If you scrute a beatbox too much you wind up with that 80's sound.eeldip wrote:the problem with that beatbox is that you just cant scrute it. no scruting feature whatsoever. totally inscrutable.

Re: Badfinger (not quite mono related)
Do you mean a mono mix that's then split with a short delay, original panned one side, 100% delay the other side? Like faking stereo guitars?dbc wrote:Badfinger had the drums in a sort of "split" method where the whole drum mix was mono then split left and right

Re: Shout-out to the Tascam 388!!
Yes, those are kind words from the Stranger. Who knew that the 388 had both built-in 'VU echo' AND a beatbox? Guess I'd better read the manual next time.
Also, it's F.M. Cornog, not CornDog (the Stranger's mistake, I know, not yours, eeldip).

Re: two prong outlets
Your computer uses the ground for several reasons - first it is the source for the 60-cycle base that the clock uses to establish its sync rate. That means that your computer and almost all 3-prong digital devices depend on the 60-cycle clock to derive their own clock and may lose sync with each ot...

Re: Pro Tools 6 ?
One might argue that it sounds better b/c the POWr dither is included as a standard plug-in. Don't know if my ears are up to snuff to hear the difference in dithering algorithms yet, but it's certainly a hot topic in the digital audio world. See Tape Op #32 for more about POWr. It's in the interview...

Re: Andy Hong: props
I second that emotion! I've been into that disc lately. Funny thing, I didn't know when I got it that it was recorded by Hong. I looked inside it, saw the picture of his kitchen, and said, that looks like Andy Hong's kitchen, just from seeing the pics in Tape Op #31 about recording drums at home (I ...

Omni DIY Mic on Snare - ouch?
Did some drum tracking last week, and among the mics I used was one of the Tape Op DIY mics, built with the Panasonic omni capsule. This was placed close in on the side of the snare shell. From there, the signal when to a pre on a Spirit M12, then straight into a Digi 001. Listening back, I'm hearin...

I don't get a clear idea of your opinion from this post.tactics wrote:Ben Folds was spot on.."some producer with computers fixin' all my shitty tracks".It's just turd polishing.
Do you think that Mr. Folds, in this story, enjoyed it when the producers fixed his shitty tracks?

Re: Do you have PERFECT PITCH?
I'm feeling reactionary, so here goes: NO SUCH THING AS PERFECT PITCH. It's ALL relative. Relative to an arbitrary tuning standard, that, in this century, has been A=440 Hz. It's been different over the course of history . So anyone who feels that they're not one of God's special creatures because o...

Re: Drum Editing, Pro Tools style
I am guilty of drum editing. A recording is a presentation that can last years ...if you can do it, why not. Yeah, that's my mindset when I'm feeling gung-ho about editing, when I'm feeling positive about the possibilities. But then after hacking away for a couple hours, I start thinking about recu...

Re: Drum Editing, Pro Tools style
The stuff I'm looking at now was tracked to a click. I already tried re-aligning a couple late kick hits, and this was my process (again, this is in Pro Tools, so your DAW may have slightly different terminology): 1. Switch to Grid edit mode, with a Bars:Beats timeline, and align the cursor with the...
