Good article, Mike! I did a review of it's little sister, the Pro 40, for Radio World last year. I had pretty much the same impression. Good box for the money, not much to complain about.

If you're willing to eat it, I don't see why she'd have a problem redoing it. I don't think it shows incompetence. It shows integrity. You're not willing to settle.

A decent large-diaphragm condenser mic would be a good place to start.

That's what I did after learning of the horrors of paper labels. I bought an Epson R220 printer. I think it cost me all of $75 at the time. Of course, as with all printer makers, they gouge you on the ink cartridges; but I've had good luck with after-market remanufactured cartridges at a fraction of...

The supplier sent me a report when I asked them about this. I'll see if I can find it.

It's most likely A. I had a similar problem several years ago when some paper-labeled discs I made suddenly stopped behaving. I discussed the matter with my supplier, and they informed me that paper labels are the worst way to label a disc. One big reason is that the adhesive eventually degrades the...

It could be a weak solder joint. (Good luck finding that!) There are some DSP chips that do NOT like to be hot, and they will tell you so. The fan idea might be good if you plan to run this thing hot all day on a regular basis.

My "day job" is broadcast engineering at a radio station. Basically keeping the place operating smoothly. Occasionally, I'm called upon to mix or record a live event. I also work part time at a local TV station, assisting with transmitter site maintenance.

Laying it on its back might help keep the reels from flying off, but that sounds like the least of your problems. It sounds like the brakes are not working. That would explain why the reels keep spinning for several seconds after you hit 'stop.' As for the playback issue, it could be a problem with ...

I would imagine you could use the Ebtech, set for -10dB, then insert a 10dB pad between that and the console.

I ran into a similar situation recently, trying to fix a pair of M-Audio headphones for a co-worker. It seems that everybody making headphones today are now using these cables where the individual "wires" are no longer the typical twisted bundle of bare copper in a rubber or teflon jacket. Now what ...
