I am glad I waited.
I think I am ordering the UAD-2 Nevana 64 in the morning.
I'll probably buy the Fairchild Comp and maybe Pultec Pro or the Plate as well.
Any final recommendations?

How to make 1/4 to XLR AES Cable?
Thanks to all who helped me with my first batch of cables. I could not have done it without your help. I am much more confident than when I started. I now need an AES cable to go from my 1/4" patch bay (punched down from a db25 connection) to an XLR connection on my soundcard. I'd prefer not to spen...

I loved the sound and songs of the late 70's-early 80's post punk stuff. Wire, The Stranglers, Gang of Four, Killing Joke, The Fall, The Birthday Party/Bad Seeds (Australian really), The Pop Group, Joy Division. All a little gothy and heavy on bass and reverbed guitar. PIL was great as well.. I thin...

Here are some tutorial movies showing off the new Metric Halo software's functionality.
A little dry like all tutorials, but very informative if you were wondering about the cards.

Thanks Drummerman, was just reading some of your other posts on the UAD topic. Glad I could offer some insight on the Metric Halo/RME discussion. Metric Halo has some good videos on their site showing off their functionality. Dry but informative. I am fairly experienced with plug ins, and sad as it ...

2 Questions about the UAD DSP card
I am pretty sure I am gonna pick up the UAD-1e Express pack. I've read nothing but good things about it, but not used it, So my purchase will be based on other users' reviews and UA's reputation. My questions are: 1. How do the UAD plugs compare to other plugs that are common to DAW's, like Sonalkis...

So, I was going to post this in a fresh thread in the near future, but I thought I'd stick it here cause it's somewhat relevant, as I am a Logic 8 user. Sorry if this is Hijacking. The next chunk of money I land, I'm going to be upgrading my interface. My current I/O (orig. 828) has seen better day...

I've had issues with Logic 8, with Normalize on or off, where the max level goes over zero db even though the source material never does. I never tracked down the issue, I think I just learned to be ultra conservative in driving the output bus. But Logic 8 definitely seems to be doing something to t...

You could try Super Digital:

Very nice guys.. Not sure what their rental options are, but if something can be had I suspect they'd know.

That looks like a great reference Th Scum, thanks for posting that. Good point too about checking the gear pinouts. I've not paid much attention until now, just bought or had cables built as needed based on the recommendations of manufacturers or leaving it up to the cable builders. I feel so grown ...

Thanks again Nate. Good to know about the solder. Some of my first, horrible soldering jobs were done with plumbing solder on power supplies and bass guitars. Live and learn. I do have a multimeter, should've thought about this earlier. OK, so all good with 1/4" balanced as long as I solder the same...
