Re: Tell me about speaker stands
I built my own stands as well with the pvc pipe filled with sand on wooden bases, mo pads on the top. followed this guys design - https://www.gearslutz.com/board/studio-building-acoustics/684196-diy-monitor-stands-pvc-pipe.html I built some of these too, theyworked well. heavy but not too crazy.

Re: Monitors - Hanging Instead of Stands
suspended isn't necessarily the only option, I'm just brainstorming ideas for getting them off the meter bridge. I read elsewhere that hanging them with wire can cause problems because the wire can resonate, but I don't know how much of a problem that would be in practice.

Monitors - Hanging Instead of Stands
Anyone here hanging their monitors from the ceiling instead of using floor stands? Any issues to watch out for? I'd like to try getting my monitors off my console's meter bridge, but I don't want to sacrifice the floor space that stands would eat up.

Re: Shure M67 Line Output Questions
I don't remember very clearly, but I had one of these things and never added a resistor to the line output. I think the user manual is available online.

Re: K&M stands?
I have the same stand Nick does, I like it. Never had issues with it sagging or falling down etc. I've had it for probably 8 years, it's help up pretty well. I did have to replace some small part on it, but from what I remember replacement parts are cheap and easy to come by.

Re: electrical engineering education/knowledge
I took an electronics class at a local trade school a few years ago. It was expensive and I'm not sure it was worth it from a financial perspective. It did give me an excellent understanding of the fundamentals, much more than the sporadic independent studying I was trying to do before. I think if y...

Re: Beyer Mic repair
I recall Beyer not wanting m88s used on bass drum, which is sad, cause its my fave kick mic. FWIW I asked about this when I got mine repaired because it died while being used on kick drum. The guys at United Sound Services said using it on kick drum should not be a problem, BUT mine is the newer TG v...

Re: Beyer Mic repair
I have no idea about DIY repair, but I had a dead M88 that I got fixed by this place:
http://unitedsoundservicesllc.com/
It cost about $180, I forget exactly what the deal was but probably just replacing the whole diaphragm.

Re: Billing for small amounts of studio time
Thanks, I guess it does just come down to being super explicit about this stuff up front. Most of the projects I work on are relatively small/low budget things, so I'm more inclined to expect to be paid for this stuff. also it's easy to set up a paypal account so people can just pay you that way, wi...

Billing for small amounts of studio time
I've been running into a common problem in the studio and I'm wondering how others here deal with it. After "completing" a project and getting paid by the band, it's pretty common for them to contact me a week later with some little thing they want - either minor mix revisions, sending them stems fo...

Re: TASCAM MS 16 - need assistance
I owned one for about 7 years and did some maintenance on it. What are you wondering about? The manual is very helpful but doesn't cover everything.

Re: home recording techniques
try using really "bad"/unusual mic placement for everything. and yeah turn the gain on the recorder up way too high.
