Tape Op alongside Sound On Sound and Future Music?
If I recall correctly aren't SOS and FM more along the lines of the digital domain and a lot more dance music oriented?

I come here to find those gem threads where people are insulting eachother and picking fights. Those are the best. I also come here cause I have been kicked off all the Trekie sites for insulting people and picking fights.

Re: Help my band choose a cover for our CD!!
Both look like serious efforts but my immediate reaction was all on number one. Its got that kinda 60's cover thing going with what looks like a simple spiral but then closer look reveals an old string. Definitely number 1 C'est super cool.

This might be totally freakin' idiotic but if yer on a budget and I know how much new cymbals cost, would damping yer existing ones with tape or cloth or foam help? Just an idea and I know someones gonna school me on this.

Re: NEW TO IT ALL- i need advice
I know exactly where yer at, as I am sure a lot of the folks on here do. I use a digi 001 into an old G4 and the first piece of gear I got was a Marshal V69 tube condenser mic. Fer $300 and I hope that isn't out of yer price range it is a pretty killer mic. It got a good review in Tape Op and all th...

Re: Ever A/B your left & right monitors? You might be su
Great everytime I hear something about Event monitors its never good. The worst is that right after I paid for them I get a catalog in the mail and they are $100 cheaper. A hex on Events. Everything I mix on them sounds awful on any other system, but that probably has to do trained in Mexico mixing ...

Re: inexpensive mic stands?
Werd Booty, I have had my eyes on that 6 pack of stands at $99.99 fer quite some time. Great to know they can take a beating and still be around. Some of the cheap mic stands I have been using include gaffers tape stuck around anything, shoes, boots, jars, music stands, coat hangers, busted lamps, w...

Re: A lifetime of absolutely worthless music
I took a modern composition class when I was at Leeds University in England. The lecturer was supposed to be pretty famous within the modern comp. world and we focused on the works of Messiaen. To me it seemed as if modern composition had reached a point where nothing was new under the sun. It had a...

Re: Does NYC's music scene suck?
Golden age indeed, If ya think about it 30-40 years ago what was there to do when you were done with school or got out of work, not much really. There were a handful of programs on TV around dinner time, Hollywood wasn't turning out movies like today, no playstation X box or whatever, no internet, n...

Re: Anyone every used a Teac/Tascam Series 3 Mixer
Wow man, I was in the same predicament about a month ago lookin fer some sorta cheap pre solution fer my digi 001. Found a Tascam 308? mixer for cheap on Harmony Central. Researched it as much as I could, found out that some people referred to the pres as "nice" and "warm". I found a lot of mid leve...

Re: Stand-Alone Digital Multitracks---Your Thoughts?
Aaay man, I'd think twice before blowing all that cash on that thing. A friend brought one of the Yamaha 16 track stand alones over and we did a demo in a weekend. The guy had Neumans and Grace (Gracie?) pres and you'd think it should have turned out amazing. I was horrified with the results. I coul...

Re: Mastering old 4 track material with RTAS plugins
:D Thanks Casey, not techy one bit. I have been fooling around with Raygun. A friend told me it is the easiest to use for reducing noise. It does a track good but sacrifices a lot of the "alive" feel of the top end. Ends up sounding more like a recording than a well captured sound. I haven't checked...
