Re: something i read in tapeop

These are all very good questions to consider, but the problem here is moving from whay was originally asked: what did this guy mean by "released" to the other question of what does each of us think about "released"...well, this gets very subjective. All of us have various reasons for making music--...

Re: WTF!!!! Sigur Ros

I am mesmerized by Sigur Ros and wish somehow that I had made this music. I am sad that it might be used by some as background music. I don't find it possible to have it on if I am trying to concentrate on anything else because its so compelling...like a tractor beam. I thought the article was limit...

Re: recording in a huge chapel...suggestions?

I am trying to get my hands on this pair of KSM 44s, but it is not a sure thing yet. The 2882 is a Metric Halo interface for DAW. Yes the AC will be turned off, but there is a road about 300yards away. I will definitely go in the night before to listen for rumble...thanks Is it possible to use the 3...

recording in a huge chapel...suggestions?

I am working on an album for a friend who is a singer/songwriter in the vein of Patty Griffin/Emmylou/Rosie Thomas... I have access to the amazing chapel at the school that I teach at: 100+ft ceiling, stone floor, very old wood paneling... We are going to try and record some vocals and piano in ther...

WTB: affordable LDC

I am interested in picking up some affordable LDCs (2) for using as overheads and for acoustic guitars. I am interested in the Oktavas, AT 3031...

Re: i need an mbox!!

yeah...make sure you don't pay anything more than $350. They have just reissued the mbox with more bomb factory plugins and it sells for $500 or something like that. The earlier package is on clearance at some GCs for just under $400. I have promised to sell mine to a friend for $350, but if that do...

Ebay...item damaged...help/thoughts

I just purchased a compressor on ebay. It was advertised: "YOU ARE BIDDING ON AN APHEX DOMINATOR 720. THIS ITEM IS 100% FUNCTIONAL AND IS NEAR MINT." The item retials for over $1000. So I was surprised at how it was shipped. It had bubble wrap around its width, no protection length wise, and it was ...

Re: miking a fender twin

I am positive it is the tubes. You can actually touch them at their base. The sides are hot, but I could put a hand on the base of the tubes and they would stop rattling. I was thinking about hiring someone to lay there beside the amp and hold them.... well anyway...so no one knows if groove tubes s...

miking a fender twin

I don't play electric, and have never miked a fender twin before. The guitarist just bought the twin for this project we are working on. He bought it used at GC and it seems to be in almost new condition. However, when hitting a strong chord with good solid tone we have found that the tubes actually...

Re: DP4 with an mbox and ibook G4?

I will look for those discussions on why DP4 isn't good with an ibook...I have 640 in RAM and it is recommended to have at least 1 gig. That might be a starting problem since there is only one space for RAM...the other is hardwired...and the gig stick is (last I checked) around $300. I really need t...

Re: "Dark," Digital Friendly Mics

I am just now building my home studio and trying to learn how to hear the distinctions between these frequency ranges. There was a comment earlier about a 414. Does anybody have any more comments on the 414 in the digital domain. I am using the TLII through a UA 2108 into a metric halo 2882 to DP4. ...

DP4 with an mbox and ibook G4?

I am switching over to DP4 from protools LE and the mbox. I will be using a metric halo 2882, but it is still in the process of being ordered. In the mean time I am wanting to mess around with DP4 and begin the learning curve. Shouldn't I be able to send the audio out through the mbox and into my mo...

Re: Metric Halo ULN 2 bypass

I mean other ins that can be bypassed. Like for instance say I was using 8 mics to track drums. What if I wanted to use four outboard pres that could be bypassed through the MIO console and still use the four other pres that are in the 2882. Is that possible?
