- ask yourself (and the artist and/or drummer ) if the drummer will be able to pull off the after-the-fact drumming. sometimes it can screw up drummers if they haven't ever played to a click, or done anything like this before. +10 i just finished up tracking a band where the drummer was not readily...

you could also try them as knee highs instead of overheads, i did that with a pair of 414 TL-II's once and it sounded pretty good.

get one of those tiny gorilla practice amps, i think they're maybe 5 watts or something, and find a shitty old dynamic for the singer to use, and then just mic the amp up. bella morte did that on the song "the end ahead" for the chorus. if you go to amazon.com and preview the song you can get a good...

i'm going to third the 57+421 combo. i use the white noise placement method, which has worked well for getting the phase relationship between the two to where you're cancelling out what you don't need.
