If you can dig up Fletcher's recent post about micing drums you'll save yourself some trouble...

Re: Ass Engineer...
This is the guy who goes out and makes the appointment for J-Lo, or something? The ass engineer makes sure she gets waxed on time when she's in session?

Re: us against them....
I don't understand the need to make musicians wear headphones if they are happy without them. If things appear not to be going well it will be best to ask what the band cares to do. If they are abusive or, God forbid, violent then throw them out. If you are running a business just put up a sign that...

I wonder if you couldn't use those tiny clip-on condensors, like AKG makes for tom-toms...

Re: Big drum sound?
I would move the Overheads closer together, maybe in a tight spaced pair facing directly down over the Kick and only a foot or two apart. This can make the OH's sound stronger and more phase coherent than a widely spaced pair. Phase problems will be the greatest threat to a big sound. So stay vigila...

Re: Golden Ears
A friend let me borrow some in Seattle long ago. I had a fun time with them and did learn quite a bit.

Calf skins aren't too hard to find. Any Guitar Center can have them for you in a week. I needed some a couple years ago and it was nothing to get them in town quickly.

Re: Fighting, flattering, failing
The way I see it my clients are paying for their time not mine. Granted it's my place and all the toys are MINE! But!!! If someone has a question I think it is perfectly appropriate to stop what I am doing and give a response. If someone wants to experiment we do it. Basically, I try and give them t...

If I can accentuate ...
