When you plug a mic into your Tascam mixer mic input, the mic is seeing a load of 2.4k. That is with a mic impedance of LESS than 600 ohm, according to the manual. For instance, a garden variety SM57 has an output impedance of 150 ohm. An SM7 has the same. A Beyer M 160 has an output impedance of 20...

FS Calrec PQ 1161 + DL1656 + DF1625
All in one rack unit. Racked by Ian Gardner at Boutique Audio and refurbished, cleaned and recapped by VK in 2007. The rack contains 4 PQ 1161s, 2 of which have SNs below 600,meaning that the amp cards are discrete. The other 2 have SNs in the 700 range and have IC based amp cards. All 4 have Sowter...

You can always get modern replacements for old parts. Ran into this problem a while back with a diode in a Neve compressor pcb. The vintage part was available but cost prohibitive ( 9 bux a piece ) Replaced it with a part that had the same voltage/current rating and it worked fine.Sort thru some dat...

You can buy 2 Apogee Ensembles for under 2k. Plays nice with a Mac and the newer versions of PT. What kind of tape deck are you looking to buy? Like anything old, or "vintage" you are always taking a risk. Especially at bargain basement prices. Is this your first tape deck? Price in all the stuff yo...

Its a Class D amplifier. So it is indeed an analog system. Class D designs use a MOSFET that is configured to work as a binary switch. The switching circuits and and DSP used to control them are digital, but the power stages of the amp deal with voltage and current. The new MOSFET designs that are u...

You should know that the reason that the Ensemble is cheap second hand is because it is discontinued and that Apogee does not intend to support it any further. Sent my now 5 year old Ensemble to Apogee over the summer for a New output encoder. After several thousand turns the plastic shaft just bre...

The 737 is a nice channel strip, but it wouldnt be my choice with that particular mic. Sm7s definitely benefit from high output mic pres like the high gain Grace 101, Neve VR and 88R type preamps, AEA ribbon mic pres etc. Or maybe try a Cloudlifter in-line.The 737 definitely sounds great with Hi Out...
