That reminds me of an EQ design that Barry Porter made public domain some years ago called "NET EQ". His claim was that it'd be so affordable to produce, while still sounding good and having enough features, that a willing manufacturer could offer it for $200 - $300 USD. I wonder if any company eve...

Parametric EQ. Good quality. 2-channel units in the $200 to $500 range with shelving capability as well as lpf and hpf. I agree with you, although the $200-$500 range might be a hard price point to meet. I'm working on three designs with a certain manufacturer at the moment. It was difficult at fir...

I think you did very well for yourself. I'm glad to see that Dave is working with the TCM1100 as well as the Apex. You certainly couldn't buy a C12R for that amount of money, and while the C12R may be better than a modified TCM1150, I promise you it's not $5000 better.

There was a whole thread about a guy who was sending one in to be done and then he never posted again. I'll look it up real quick. I wouldnt mind knowing myself how that might stack up against some syteks or rnp's.... Two things: We have sound samples up for the modified SM Pro that compare it to a...

Wow, I can't wait to post some of the Stand up bass tracks we just did with the 460 mod, it'll blow your mind Matt. Looking forward to it. I'm sure that if I were to rebuild the amp head in that 1150 the low end response would come alive. I've got my eye on that CAD Trion mic, too--the dual ribbon....

I used to say that cables couldn't possibly make any difference, and I was positive that the cable thing was all hype and snake oil.

Two years ago, I did some experiments with different types of cables and jacket materials, and found that different cables do indeed have different characteristics.

I played around with the Nady TCM1150, which seems to be the same microphone. I replaced the output transformer with a Cinemag 2480, but haven't had time to do much else. I've only done simple tests thus far, but it sounds pretty good for the $200 I spent on microphone and parts. My one complaint wo...

Yes--773 857 3761. We unexpectedly exceeded our bandwidth for the month, and my web provider is on vacation right now, and I haven't been able to reach him. What luck! It will automatically reset itself on Oct 1. We won't be back in the shop until Monday, though. You could always just PM me if you'v...

It looks interesting thus far, and I have high hopes for it. I've had to trace the channels out by hand, which is kind of a hassle. Initially, I had thought that the design might be heavily based on NY Dave's passive summing designs, but that hasn't turned out to be the case at all. It doesn't seem ...

SM Pro PM8 summing bus

SM Pro sent us their summing box yesterday, along with two of their new mic preamps. It has two line-level outputs and one passive output that allows you to use a mic preamp for makeup gain. Has anyone else seen this? I've been looking for one since I heard about them in January. I can't seem to eve...

So what about the diff. between the modded 002 and the modded MOTU?? I like the 896 best, and I've said so in other threads. But that's just my opinion--you might not feel the same way if you heard them side by side. They're both good, they're just different from each other. Sorry if that doesn't h...

So the next question is... Black Lion modded 002 or MOTU???? WHich one is better? Funny you should ask. A few of us here at the shop just did a shootout last weekend with a modified MOTU 896 and a modified 002. We used a Hafler Transnova 1500 with a set of Dayton BR-1's , and a Naim amp with a pair...

Hey Puff, what Mini-Me modification is being discussed, and is it theoretical or an actual mod? No mod for the mini-me. I was just trying to elaborate about some aspects of the conversion process, and how each aspect affects the sound. You could try to box your own evaluation board. Cirrus has an e...

would it be really hard to design? It would be a challenge, but not an impossible task. In the past, putting together a working A/V firewire layer and drivers would have been an overwhelming challenge for a small company. These days it's much easier because there are so many dedicated turnkey solut...
