Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....
I've that Shure but the version w/out the meter - what meter is half the fun. It's OK but I have other stuff - the Rane MS1B, for example, is similar (1 input) but better, IMNSFHO. What I wanted to say, for fuzzy pre that's cheap - Studio Projects VTB1. It was my second pre (I still use my first, M...

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....
shure m67. honestly it's the exact opposite of what everyone on here and on GS have said. first, it's insanely quiet, no noise at all. second it's not very dirty/furry/wooly, it sounds like a slightly warm clean preamp. the interwebs have let me down... i didn't care about the noise just thoug...

Re: I-net collabs
Cool, good to know I'm not alone. markjazzbassist: a cheap computer (good-enuff XP Pro systems are on E-Bog for under US$200, just stay off internet), Reaper (US$60), an M-Track interface (US$100 new). Or, get a small SDHC digital recorder (for the XLR and 1/4" ins, usable converters) to transfer y...

all i have is a 4 track reel so unless someone is interested in mailing 1/4" tape, i'm on my own recording and playing all the instruments myself

Re: Rat Shack coming back?
fantastic news. i don't have a local store that has piles of electronics supplies so i have to order online and wait. i would rather support the local business and get it same day.

Re: Patch Bay Question
aphex 124. does 2 channels either +4 to -10 or -10 to +4. look up their specs, they are flat like 10hz to 40k. very nice units and cheap as hell used on ebay. you can get a pair for 50 bucks. that would be 4 channels, if you need 8 that's 100 bucks. the ebtech is nice but it's expensive.

moog mg-1 synth, all the A keys don't work. i've replaced the top octave generator, 3 octave chips, and numerous other IC/Capacitor/resistors to no avail. on monday when i get some time i'm gonna list it on ebay/reverb. just need it gone. i have a vintage EHX small stone pedal, was working great and...

Re: Tempo Shock
yeah i'd recommend stopping and working on something else or calling it a day at that point. as a bassist i'm uber conscious of timing between the rhythm section, sometimes i hear "micro mistakes" where the bass and kick are delayed by nanosecond. i think i'm terrible. come back the next day and rea...

Re: Laurel or Yanni, is my hearing severely compromised?
i hear both. yanny is higher, laurel lower pitched. i have fantastic hearing though (was just at an audiologist). i used IEM and earplugs and don't crank amps. i also don't play with guitarists that's saved me more than just my hearing

Re: Alesis HD24 - Still a decent option?
tascam dr 680 new is in your price range. i had a friend that used it on movies a lot and never had issues. I came across that in my search. It looks good but I’d go for more inputs. One of my regular gigs is a live talk show with a house band. I usually end up at 16 ins for that one. 24 I/O is pre...

Re: Setting up Tascam 38 8-track with Tascam M30 mixing console
first off i highly recommend getting the manual for both machines and reading it a couple of times to understand how to use all the functions. both can be found at HifiEngine (google search) with a free membership (its all free). Or just google search them. 1. Direct out from every channel to Input ...
