Actually, if somebody put duct tape on any of my mics or cables, I might lose my shit. That residue is so gross. That's why I like the piece of guitar pick/zip tie/paper clip put through the slot - it stays in place, prevents the button from being pressed, and leaves no residue. I love duct tape bu...

Is a RE320 comparable for kick duties to the RE20? Also, whaddya use the VTB1's for? (I have one, throw it on bass occasionally, vocals ...) I've never used an RE320, but I've heard that since it uses a different magnet structure and doesn't have an output transformer the 320 is a bit brighter and ...

Went on a Dynamic Mic spending spree at GC-Pro. Just acquired a long-lusted-after NIB EV RE20 Mic, and a second MD421-II for my collection. I can't wait to try the RE20 on Kick! Should make a nice compliment to the usual suspects. Next on my list: Used passive Fender USA Jazz Bass or maybe a "jangl...

Quite confused by the title of this thread's grammar. Anyway, my floor is concrete. The whole floor in the recording space is covered with area rugs, except for a 2'x2' patch. I'm sure you can see where this is going...a client was recording here, picked up my acoustic guitar, promptly dropped it o...

Wow yeah I just took a look at those and it looks pretty nice! I rarely have the need for it but today I had a band record live, vocals included, with a quiet singer. I imagine this could have cut a bit of the hi hats out nicely. I'd feel a little bad putting a singer inside one of these cages, but ...

this isn't damage, but damage overted....when I was an interning during college, i was asked to set up drum mics and I launched a md421 off the stand like a missile. I picked it up quickly and luckily there was no damage. I put it up carefully with the other mics and pretended nothing happend...the...

I've got one of these (crappy) Monster cables (that someone gave me so I cant really complain...) http://www.musiciansfriend.com/accessories/monster-cable-s-100-xlr-microphone-cable and it has the same thing. I checked it with an ohmmeter and the connector is tied. But unfortunately the molded conn...

I come from a similar struggle working for years to finally be able to get nice, natural, clean sounds, only to have a lot of situations where it's too clean and I wish I could learn some things from where I was a few years ago. Personally I like to study a sound I'm kind of trying to aim for, or at...

Fascinating post, Wrecking Matthew. Definitely something I haven't heard before, I'd love to give that sound a try sometime.

Really depends on the rest of the mix to me. It's always interesting to hear the sound of one mic compared to another but it's impossible to say one is the best without knowing what context it's supposed to be the best for. The U47 seemed to be a weird fit with her voice, I didn't love it. Based one...

jgimbel, I bought a Stylophone from somebody here on the TO board, because I love the sound and wanted to emulate that David Bowie thing. My problem with recording with it or using it in the DJ set-up so far is two-fold-- wildly loud output that is out-of-step with many of my other line-level devic...

No need to apologize for the self-promotion. Not enough quality self-promotion on this board these days. The cover sounds really good. Not sure if I have the ears to comment on the vocal mic specifically but very nice production and execution. I'm most interested in your video process. What kind of...

Just one last post on this thread. I hope this isn't too much shameless self promotion, but every once in a while I do a random pop cover video. I decided to use the Telefunken for the vocal in this to see how it sounded on vocals that weren't whisper quiet and it performed really well. It held up t...
