I don't have much to add, other than I had an SG with the custom '57's and the sound was mushy and sorta low-mid heavy. When I backed them off the string more, they just became quieter and more mushy if that's possible. I replaced them with P90's and it sounds great. A bit noisy though. From what I ...

It seems like every single Reaper thread on the internet has at least one person who uses the thread to bash some other program. I'll admit that this does kinda turn me off from the program a little bit. Especially when it's pretty general slagging with few (if any) specifics given. I can't think o...

After I looked at the schematic and posted my reply up there -- only AFTER that -- I also looked at your layout, and noticed on that you had the 220K resistor AFTER the master volume, so I assume you actually did it that way. If you'd done it with the 220K BEFORE the MV I'm sure you'd have noticed ...

Just checking out your schematic, and I notice your master volume is a little unorthodox. It looks like if you plug into channel one (the 1 knob tone control channel) turning down the master volume will cut a ton of treble and a good bit of bass and leave behind just a little low level midrange. Is...

Fender Bassman 10 modification

A while ago, I got a hold of a Fender Bassman 10. It's a decent guitar amp, but I already have a Bassman head and it sounds better than the B10. I made a 18 watt amp before and love it, but it isn't loud enough to play with the band I'm in. I figured it would be fun to gut the B-10's preamp section ...

I have two of them and they get as much use as my LA2a clones. Snare, bass, guitar (acoustic and electric) and voice. I agree with Rodgre, they work great used parallel. One thing to look out for- they can be noisy.

Is that a t-20? Nope, it's a 1983 Fury. I think that was the first or second year they put out Fury basses, so it still has the T series knobs and headstock. I might be prejudiced since it's been my bass for 25 years, but it sounds and plays better than any other bass I've tried. It has crazy susta...

I definitely agree with that. It sounds great and is fun to play. I just love the switches. It's really easy to jump between sounds.

I use one of those red tool cabinets you see in auto shops. There's a sliding door on part of it that makes me nervous. It's rubbing up against the guides and I don't want metal shavings clinging to my mic elements. I'm going to make a wood cabinet soon because I have run out of space and half my mi...

This is not actually what I was talking about at all, I meant using crappy sounds "on purpose" in an indie rock or singer/songwriter kinda context. Going back to the architectural reference, heavy rock really depends on solid materials throughout, like a steel framed building. What I was getting at...

I used to think I could make a good mix, or recording of a mediocre performance. I was quite wrong. Yeah, I didn't mean to say that it's always going to get better, or that something will always become interesting for you. If you record the people how they want to sound you are doing your job. My a...

One adage I keep hearing is "you can't polish a turd." Well, if all you have is turds, get out the palette knife and start blending colors. Something interesting will happen. The other option is to buy a freeze-drying machine, a powder coater and a magic buffing wheel. But then the problem is you st...
