Re: Drugs Suck Whale Balls
Drugs obviously aren't the best thing for people, but please don't look down on people who do them. Not to get all philosophical here on a message board, but I like to believe that people generally are doing the best they can to deal with life's constant bullshit. For us, we're lucky we have music a...

Re: why do your older tapes/cd's sound amazing sometimes?
You know, although I can't say the quality of my older recordings are technically better, there are some recordings that move me a lot more than their more recent recordings of the same song.. (Did that make sense?) I think in the beginning, when I knew absolutely jack shit about recording, since I ...

Re: seeking tips for Otari 8 track operation
If you don't already know this, don't forget to buy a demagnetizer (I use R.B.Annis' Hand D. Mag) and to use 99% Isopropyl Alcohol to clean your heads. Also, when you demagnetize, do it,, move it VERY slowly to the heads and then when moving it back.

Re: What Did You...12-07-03
My third day straight mixing my band's first full length album (lack of showers and sleep). Probably gonna have to skip out on work a few more days to get it finished. Everytime I've needed a break between songs or feeling worn out, I've had to come here to the TapeOp board to remind myself I'm not ...

There was a whole thread on this topic a few weeks ago. Do a search up on top and you should find it.

Question on how to use reference CD's
Hello all, I'm kinda a newbie when it comes to working with reference CDs. I'm currently mixing our band's mixes and wanted to compare it against some of our fave cds but how can I since all of these cds have been already been mastered. I was just curious how you all specifically use your reference ...

Re: Is there a single channel SSL pre-amp??
Thanks for the feedback guys! Yeah, I don't quite have that kind of cash lying around but it's good to know there's one available. The reason I was looking into it was because two of my fave producters, Dr. Dre and Alan Moulder mentioned that they use the compressor on the SSL boards a lot so I was ...

Re: What should the mixdown sound like?
How's it going Christian! There are a ton of other people on this board who can give better advice on this one but in my opinion, you want to try and get the mix as good as possible before mastering. A few months back, I wanted to send a mix to this really good mastering guy and he told me that at b...

Re: Compresson 101
The VS880 was my first recorder ever, I know this is very comparable to the 840. My advice to you is whatever you are recording, don't plug the mic or instrument straight into the Roland. The pres on those thing's SUCK. When they put everything in one box they have to skimp somewhere. Track everyth...

Is there a single channel SSL pre-amp??
Forgive me if that's a stupid question.. I've heard a lot about Neve 1073's but I can't remember if there is one for SSL too. And if there is one, would it also have compression on it as well like the larger boards.
Thanks!
Cyrus
