As a bass player, im totally guilty of being a string tapper between notes and in rests, as a way of keeping time and rhythm for myself. It's definitely something I have to be aware of in a recording. As to playing "too loud," I know that bass players will have the best control over their dynamics w...

I had an instructor who told us whenever we were patching stereo signals around, to always use patch cables of the same length, otherwise the L and R signals would end up out of phase due to the delay induced by different patch cable lengths. And I thought, waaaait a tick. That shit is moving at the...

Macbook Pro cloning

Hey all, My MBP is getting a little long in the tooth (2008 Intel model), and I'm getting concerned about a hardware failure wiping out my recording platform. I'm running OSX 10.6.8, PT10, UAD software with the SOLO/Laptop dongle. I'm wondering if it's possible to clone the entire system on into a n...

I have the Chameleon Labs 7702 and I like it a lot. The HPF function is really handy.

I did muffled. It was pretty much spot on by the time the system learned... big dip at 4k, a big hump around 500z, a shelf below 200. Pretty much nailed the concept I was thinking off when rating the samples.

Packing blankets in a practice space

Hello all, I'm recording drums for my band's next album in our practice room. It's a typical box: carpeted concrete floors, drywall walls with short industrial carpet covering about 5/6 of the height from the floor, drywall ceiling. I forget the actual dimensions but it's something like 16ftx22ft wi...

agershon: I was pretty much mainlining Soul Coughing/Mike Doughty when all these songs came together. I aim for Soul Coughing production combined with Paul Simon songwriting. So I guess that accounts for the the more melodic/less weird aspect. Thanks for checking it out!

Sad bastard pop songs, DADDAD tuning

So I had some free time when my old band went on hiatus, followed by my girlfriend and I having a lousy parting of ways. I wrote an albums worth of songs mostly based around an acoustic guitar in DADDAD tuning. Check it out if you like! https://soundcloud.com/calewilcox/sets/invisible-machine All re...

+1 on Fatheads. Also, the Pacific Pro Audio LD-3 is a nice sounding and cheap tube multi-pattern condenser (http://store.pacificproaudio.com/product_info.php/products_id/118) If I were doing this project that's what I'd pull out of my mic collection. No phantom power needed! I'm digging the tracks o...

ADAT and SPDIF input with a 003

Hey all, I want to be able to use all 18 inputs on my 003. I have an Octopre running into the ADAT input currently, and I'm looking to buy a digital two channel guy to feed the SPDIF ports. As I understand it, either the SPDIF pre or the ADAT pre have to be the master clock source in order to use bo...
