Re: Can't Find the answer anywhere-is my theory total doodoo
"2 more human doubles on 6-string guitar with the same 70-80% pan as the main guitar part." Oooh, Alanfc, you are sooo close! As a home recordist with years of heavy metal recording running in my bloodstream, here's the deal with those big guitars: Yes, INDEED, double those guitar parts once again, ...

Re: The never ending album (rate) project
All of this could have been avoided if you had simply used Dubley.

Will Phantom Power Hurt My Dynamic Mikes?
Hey kind folks, Just another newbie question: Just picked up a small 4-bus Soundcraft mixer with direct outs on it's mono channels, which I plan to use as an eq-able front end to my DAW and my analog 8-track. The bummer is that the phantom power is the kind that affects ALL CHANNELS when you turn it...

Re: Pre-DAW compression?different sound than post?
Incidentally I should also point out I'm talking about your basic Behringer $100 outboard compressor here for this scenario...not an 1176 or anything fancy. That said, I do have the UAD-1 card in my computer so that's the kind of tone I can get post-signal.

Pre-DAW compression?different sound than post?
Hoping someone with experience can answer this question me and a buddy have been wondering about: Say for example I'm recording a snare drum straight to digital by way of a Mac/Digital Performer type setup. Does the sonic effect of, say, strapping a hardware compressor across my snare channel mixer ...

Re: How Does One Sync an Analog Tape Multitrack to a DAW?
Wow, lots of good advice for me so far. I hope to be able to return the favor some day when I'm less stupid. In regards to that last message about sample rates fluctuating all over the place and leaving artifacts, I'd think he's absolutely right about using the SMPTE sync purely for monitoring and p...

Re: How Does One Sync an Analog Tape Multitrack to a DAW?
I am constantly stunned by the speed and grace with which replies to my questions are posted on this board...what a great group of people! Matthew, I hear what you're saying, but I guess my thing is that I am trying to record bands in a "live" type of performance situation, where the amps are isolat...

How Does One Sync an Analog Tape Multitrack to a DAW?
Hi All, I'm a seasoned Digital Peformer user (in the Rock n' Roll multitrack idiom, not too midi-saavy) who just recently purchased his first semi-pro analog recording deck...an Otari MX5050 1/2" 8-track machine. Just got it up and running and am very happy with the sound and want to start trying to...

LOOKING FOR A USED MOTU 2408 MK3 PRONTO!
Hi All,
Just sold my MOTU 896 with the intent of buying a used 2408 MK3 on eBay to replace it. They always have 'em up for sale but not this week! Now I've got no I/O at all and am screwed. Anyone out there trying to sell one?

LOOKING TO BUY A TASCAM 388 IN SF BAY AREA
Hi All. I'm a musician/Studio owner living in Napa, CA and am looking to get my hands on a used (obviously) Tascam 388 in perfect working condition. They come up on eBay time to time, but they weigh 88 lbs so shipping from out of the area would probably kill the inherent affordability of this fine l...
