My results with HotPlates have been less than stellar. Not only did it seem to mill all of the shimmer out of my mid60's Deluxe, the one time i brought it to as small club, the sound guy kept making me turn it down, lower and lower, until my amp was inaudible. Though i do think that pretty much any ...

An online archive of past issues would be swell. Really swell, actually.

Just wondering how you manage to use any RAID config at all on a laptop- do you do a software stripe with an external drive? I appreciate your commitment to mission critical equipment :) As far as hardware goes, I have not used any of the Apogee stuff yet, but my 5 year old Metric Halo 2882 still ro...

Uh.... oops. I added 10 to the model number on 3 occasions, because that is, it would seem, my IQ.

It is an RE20 I'm after, as I am sure both of you guessed. The mike, not the Boss pedal.

trade an brand new MD421 for an RE20 in Brooklyn?

We can work out the cash difference if your RE20 is brand new, or your RE20 is beat up, etc etc.

My 421 has been use 2x, still has case, warranty card, the whole 9. I've only had it for a week, and sort of regret my enthusiasm in buying 3 in the same week.

Got my beta56, and think is sounds amazing on my deluxe. Sounds pretty great on the snare too. Thanks, Pete!

Got a few things to say here: "I really just want a KLON clone! BUT Haha, I've heard rumours about the actual circuitry in the KLON is covered in some kind of "BLACK GOOP!" That way the paranoid designer keeps it hard to replicate! " Well, reading this post, I can see why. Bill Finnegan is, like a l...

I have been a great time miking 2 amps (inspired by that Jack Endino article in EQ) with a beta56 (inspired by that Pete Townsend interview in EQ) on one amp, and a 421 (inspired by that Jack Endino article in EQ) on another. Those mikes sound fantastic together, panned 10 and 2- the 421 has nice sm...

I was psyched when I heard about this, but when I saw the spec, I almost wept... Polyester finish over basswood? I know there are people that really love the sound of basswood, but I have never been one of them. Plus, the polyester finish Fender uses on their cheaper guitars just murders the resonan...

collapsing tracks

also, you can drop dif. drums on to the same track if they are separated in frequency- if you have access to mixer, drop your kick onto the same track as your overhead. It's not ideal, but you have a fair amound to wiggle room with the EQ on a kick to boost/cut the volumes (provided the initial mix ...

St. Pete and the Beta56

Has anyone have any experience on using Beta 56s on guitar? After I read about Townsend using those, I searched the board and found little else but beta56 hatin'. Most people were talking about drums, but... Also, I remember an engineer telling me that PT was fond of using a 57 on the cone, an omni ...
