Re: Power fried my MOTU?
Longshot guess, but I would start with testing the powersupply for the laptop and converter. After losing a system to a lightning strike in 93, I've put my whole studio and everything hardwired to my network on Ups's to the same ground. That strike welded all the cards and cpu to the mobo. I spent a...

Re: ADAT frontend for DAW
Hi Roy, I started DAW with a blackface and a Korg 1212 card on win 98. It will work fine as 8 inputs or outputs, at 16 bit. Still, you can't go in and out at the same time with an adat, so you need a way to monitor. I quickly got rid of the Korg, and bought a Rme 9652 and an Alesis AI3 to go with my...

Re: Big Monitors Rule
Jes, Sorry I don't have a photo link, but a thousand words are worth a picture, er something like that. I cut the 1x10's the length I wanted, and doubled the thickness. Boxed in all 4 sides with the 1x4's. That added strength and width to the 1x10's. I doubled the 1x10's again for the legs, and fitt...

Re: Big Monitors Rule
Jes, My monitor bridge is about 6 1/2 foot long. It easily accomadates 2 or even 3x19 inch monitors plus a pair of KRKs on their sides. I built it with 1"x10"s and 1"x4"s :) That keeps the speakers within 3 to 4 foot of each ear. About 6 inches out of the reach of my fingers in my listening position...

Re: Big Monitors Rule
Try running dual monitors. The 19 and 20 is quite a pair. I had that combo, but the old 20 finally died, now I'm at 2x19" . You just can't get too much monitor.

Re: The Thread About Cubase
Sorry, I can't help with mac and motu, but it works on pc and rme. Has anyone tried fxteleport with a vst host? It looks real interesting and cheap, and it seems the vst link is hit and miss at best, but off loading processing and vst instruments to my old computers seems like a golden grail pursuit...

Re: Serial ATA / SATA Anyone using it? results?
Several years ago I tried a Promise Ide raid system, and was totally non-pulsed, and continued with a U2W system. A couple of years ago, a friend talked me into trying a Silicon Image 133 raid card, and since I had a pair of matched Ata 100 WD 60 gig BB series drives in the closet, I spent the $20.0...

Re: 2003 server. Why?
Unless you have a 64 bit processor, I'm just not sold on it. There is a XP lite version of the software that made 98SE survivable for the software we had back then.

Re: 2003 server. Why?
http://www.certificationsuccess.com/index.cfm?pageid=437&siteid=1 Perhaps it due to the increasing use of over lan type programs such as fxteleport or Vegas 5's distibuted processing (rendering). Just more baseless speculation  It does turn out that there is 64 bit support in some versions of ...

Re: 2003 server. Why?
The only thing that pops to mind is I believe it's a 64 bit OS? So if you have a dual Opteron setup {and IWill now has a dual Nforce 3 mobo:) } you need it. Other than that, XP pro Sp1 or 2 works real well here.

Be sure and get round UDMA cable, it keeps the parts way cooler due to increased airflow:)
