Weird, I was just getting back into them for the first time in years. SPIRIT is a badass album. Just ignore the words, pretend it's in another language. Interesting frequency "palette" on their albums -- with all the horns and falsetto vocals, and the high, dry drums, it's a whole different deal. S...

i worked as a staff engineer at The Complex in west lost angeles for years. EWF were a part of building that studio with george massenburg. we had two fully custom built massenburg consoles. we also had a "live console" that was used on the sound stages that massenburg had built as well. both main ...

Earth Wind and Fire

I think this band's super positive quasi religious vibe took away from the fact that they were making some of the nastiest funk of their time. Their songs are incredible whether you are looking for beautifully arranged, melodic R&B or in your face funk, they did it all. If you haven't really given t...

I'm not trying to push any buttons here, but do you think Steely Dan has any black fans? It just seems to me in an effort to be soulful at times the band even comes off as more "white" and to me sometimes it just sounds cheesy. Sampled by: "Peg" (I know I love you better): De la Soul: Eye Know "FM"...

The fans I know are baby boomers. I'm 29 and it seemed like all my friends' dads were into Steely Dan when I was growing up.

I like some of it in very small, select doses. Too much of it makes me want to go put early Public Image Ltd. on repeat

I guess I just associate Steely Dan with baby boomer yuppies, drinking wine, smoking cigars and driving around in volkswagon convertables with scarves or something.

Preface: Love the band I saw them many many years ago at the Metro in Chicago. It was loud, very loud, so loud I couldn't really hear them--you know what I mean? I found it a waste of money. For a few minutes it's an unusual experience, but for a concert of music... I found it detracting. The songs...

I didn't personally see them but a friend wrote this about the SF show: It was so fucking loud that people were holding their ears---with earplugs in them! I was offered earplugs twice by different people. This is no exaggeration. 20 Minutes of white noise in the end beaming from their guitars shoo...
