Re: Day Jobs and the Fear of the Real World

You know I feel pretty strongly on this subject, since it's something I live everyday. I went to the recording workshop, got a cool internship in SF, CA, came back when the studio closed, couldn't find an audio job in columbus (imagine that), so I went back to cooking, saved up some money, bought so...

Re: recent albums destroyed by over-limiting

Remember, radio stations are kinda to blame too because all their poo is squashed by a tri band limiter before it rides the airwaves. Everyone wants to be on the radio so if it isn't as loud as (insert flavor of week here), whomever you are working for wants it louder. You can try to explain but we ...

Re: Master fader level in ProTools ???

Now everyone says red is bad, but if I blinky blinky on the PT masta fada every once in a while, I never hear it. What's even stranger is that when you go digital out into a digital 2 channel or track device, it never peaks. What the hell?

Yeah, they are great, except when you drop the filter on a dark sticky bar floor. But I never leave home without them.

Re: the brotherhood of 388...

Anyone know how much these these mammoths of magnetizism originally sold for and what years they were made?
I've seen ones on ebay go for as low as $250 and as high as $800. I paid $550 for mine after a full maintenance and alignment, but I just wanted to know opinoins on the street price.

Re: the brotherhood of 388...

I love my 388. I've done my last 5 CD's on it. I love the psycho low end. You can get really neat distorted vox too. I have the crazy ass manual complete with exploded views and stuff. I usually track drums and bass on it and then finish my O/D in the komputa. It makes everything sound so dark and h...

Re: Mixers: are there "live" boards vs. "stud

You always want direct outs on each channel also for tape sends. It really depends on how many tracks you want, because you could get away with a 32 channel desk for a 16 track studio. I just purchased a "live" desk, an old yamadog 1516, 16 channel for $100, but since it has direct outs post or pre ...

Re: We are some abstract bastards

Pumping or Breathing is easier to hear when you hold your breath. And next time you're in a restaurant or some place with a 70 volt PA, listen for it. Sometimes musak is jazzy and when the kick hits the rest of the mix goes away. Where'd it go? Also on "alternative rock" stations you can hear their ...

Check out a Beyerdynamic M-88 or a Shure 91 if you get the chance. I'd take the D6 over the D112 though.

Re: digi 002 rack=piece of shit

Wow, I was really looking foward to buying the 002R for the hardware/software bundle. Maybe I'll keep looking a little more. It just seems like the most bang for the buck. A MOTU and Nuendo is twice the price. Any more thoughts/reviews? P.S> I wouldn't really be getting it for the pre's. Just 8 in a...

Re: Why does my DAW sound like crap?

I use my 388 with layla /vegas all the time and it suits me fine. You just have to watch to low end cause the pre's on the 388 get swampy. Are you using the RCA direct outs on every channel straight from the repro head? My DAW setup is pretty ghettofabulous and I am satisfied. I usually do drums and...

Re: Reggae/Dub Drums

Man this is the best subject ever. Those old rolands are sweet. The trick is to feed the deeeelay to itself. Some units just make a horrible squeal, but the roland or the tape or even my deffectron will go ka ka ka kakakakakakakakakakakakakakakakakakakakakakakakakakakakaka. Yea those flying cymbals ...
