NONONO remix (Indaba remix contest)
I did this remix for an Indaba contest. I'm not an EDM oriented guy, so I just did a straight literal remix. Removed some elements, rearranged and changed the track "Pumpin Blood" into a piano driven indie/pop kind of ballad. First time I've done any kind of remix work, but it was fun so I thought I...

Have you ever set up alternate input monitoring mixes with Mix Control before? It's really simple, but it can get very convoluted if you're not familiar with it. If you're trying to send the inputs back from the summing mixer directly to the monitors, I would set your routing preset to CLEAR, then g...

I keep all of my gear boxes. The manufacturer's box and the shipping box, if there is one. Microphones, amps, guitars, stands, tools, computers. In the case of my mics, I generally keep them in their original boxes in my cabinet, for the ones I have. It drives my wife kind of crazy, because I usuall...

In after the mark, so to speak, but I thought I'd toss in my experience. Every time I used a Blumlein configuration it was with a very high ceiling, above the drummer's head and I liked it quite a bit. However, I think it really depends on the music and the overall vibe you're going for. In that cas...

Re: managing the first take wonders
Always Be Recording. There's the meat and the potatoes. Every time someone says "can you just run it through once, so I can get a feel for it?". My response is "Sure thing", then I hit record. Having a DI track for reamping is always a nice safety net too. It's not like the first take is ALWAYS mag...

The more you compress a vocal later the more a crappy room can come up and bite you on the ass. I've found those commercially available "reflexion filters" work very well in cutting down the room. If you can't afford one of those you can make a "T" with a boom stand and place a blanket over it. Mak...

At this point I pretty always do tracking out and about, renting a space if necessary. My permanent work space is my mixing room at home. So generally I'll have vocalists record there, since I have RealTraps and other various treatments. The room isn't completely dead, but doesn't have any weird nod...

The tone works for the style. I'd say just a touch of very short stereo delay would probably do the trick. It seems apparently the track I'm listening to is already something new from what you originally posted? I don't know if you still have the same concerns, but I wouldn't over think it too much,...

If you've got a pair of 4047's I'd say +1 to a stereo room and mono OH. Forget about the FOK and get a mic on both toms. The stereo room will give you a lot to play with in the mix, depending on how big you want to go for each individual song (or part) with the room sound and you'll still get a dece...

Some of you liked the demo I posted previously and we just completed the full 10 track EP (comes in about 7 minutes). It's up for free download w/ a digital booklet. Fast, angry punk/hardcore/grindcore type stuff, not for everyone I know but hopefully some of you enjoy it. http://mentalwaste.bandcam...

I play bass for this band and do all the recording. Mostly fast, short, aggressive songs in a hardcore punk vein (fastcore, powerviolence, whatever genre name the kids are using these days). Heavily influenced by bands like Infest, Discharge, old Napalm Death and that sort of thing. http://mentalwas...
