Topic: STAX/MOTOWN soul drum sound - how?

My friend and I do a lot of writing and recording and of late have decided that with drums we allowed to use 3 mics total. We can put them wherever we want but only 3 mics get used on the drums ever. I usually have one above the snare pointed at the center of the snare about 4' up, that mic is usual...

always keep an eye on your amps to watch for clipping, especially the monitor amps. Horns can go very easily, and that makes club owners mad. Agreed. I also never run amps at full. I kick em back to around 75-80%. It buys you headroom and if you get a spike is less likely to blow your wedges away.

If you are cutting more than 6db of any freq at any eq you may want to move your mics. I also try to never boost more than 3dB. Try not to touch your Graphic too much. Just cut freqs that are a problem and leave the others alone. Don't boost anything on your graphic. Aim to get a natural, balanced s...

I would like Nuendo to stop looking like a robot. The Fonts, Icons, Etc are repulsive. Other than that, if I could drag and drop the insert chain order I would be happy.

The only thing about Adats that makes since at all is that you can buy them for almost nothing due to their total lack of value. linear Digital recording and the reliability of VHS... Yeah... sign me up.

And while I'm ranting, DAT = worthless also.

I like it too and don't care if nobody else does. Hell, some people love the way Tool records sound and I think they are a worst case scenario of sound.
I hate the Justice kick but it was just fashion at the time. To each his own.

If you can find one, old card catalogs from a library are great. You can label what mic is in which drawer on the out side label and will have enough room for mic documentation in the drawer with the mic. Most mics should fit inside these drawers. I do not have one but have had this plan for years. ...

I love mine on just about anything. They are my go to for when i need a mic to work and not have to do a lot of work to make it work... for example guitar amps: http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t285/vsr600/414-408.jpg Those MD 400 series Sennheisers are my favorite Dynamics for guitar and snare. ...

I run Cubase SX3 on a dual 3.6 GHz home built PC and only have 1 GB of DDR400. I have never maxed it out and have a session with 39 tracks with multiple plugs and Reason running via rewire right now. CPU usage %44, no glitches.

I use 414's on all kinds of stuff and avoid a cloudy-ass 57 whenever I can.

I lover Ampeg Rverb Rocket 2's.
I hava old Sears tube amp (5watt) with a gnarly tremelo that sounds great.
I also have taken the headphone out of a Line Six Pod into a little 4" car stereo speaker and gotten great results.

My absolute favorite is the Tube Prinston Reverb.
