I have a Yamaha 4-track cassette recorder that I like a lot and have been using for years. It's well built and sounds really good. Model # MT400
And I second the strong recommendation for the Oktava MC-012. Awesome all-around mic for the money!

Re: recording with house hold items
Last week I put a blender solo in a song. The blender had a knob that controlled the speed, so I used that to control pitch. It came out nice!

A great place to check out synths is:
http://www.vintagesynth.com
They have info (sometimes sounds too) on just about every synth there is, even modern ones.

Re: Digital 8-track boxes: Any With Effects Loop in/outs?
I wouldn't want to record on those crappy little flash cards either! If I had 8 or 9 hundred bucks right now, I would buy a Fostex VF-160. (The 16 track version of the VF80) It has a 20 gig hard drive, and also a built-in CD burner, which is really good for backing up your tracks (you dont have to w...

Re: Presonus TubePre, anyone used it?
I have that unit. Don't put too much weight on my opinion since it's the only outboard preamp I have, but I haven't noticed any "horrible noise" or anything. It works for me, and I think it sounds better than the preamps on my 4 track. It's a good deal for the money, I got mine with the Oktava 319 m...

Re: what some good Mini Disc Recorders?
Does that MD have a mic input or just a line input? Some of them (like mine) only have a line input. If it's a line in, you have to insert a mic preamp (or mixer, whatever you got) in between the mic and the minidisc to boost the signal.
hope that helps.

Cakewalk Pro Audio + plugins
Is anyone here familiar with Cakewalk Pro Audio 9 and how to install plugins? The help file says it uses Direct-X. The plugins I have are .dll files and I think they're VST. Is it possible that they're not compatible with Cakewalk? If anyone knows any info on how this stuff works, it would be greatl...

Re: Has anyone used this to mic their kicks,,,, or anything
I haven't tried it, but it seems that an easy way to do this trick is to use the speaker of a combo amp (the kind where you can unplug the speaker from the back of the amp) since there's already a plug, and plug that into a preamp/DI. Or come to think of it, any guitar or bass cab would work. But wo...

Drum Mic Clips
Any suggestions for good & cheap mic holders that clip onto drums? The Audix D-Vice looks like a really good option, but I'm poor, and the On-Stage ones are so much cheaper (3 for the price of one audix) but they look like they're not flexible at all, no moving parts. I'm willing to sacrifice flexib...

Re: Oktava MK-319 mic review
It sounds REALLY good when paired with an MK 012 (small diaphragm oktava) on acoustic guitar. The 319 brings out the dark midrange, while the 012 picks up more detail and high end. Used alone though, it sounds a little too honky for me. On my vocals it sounds really good. I don't have many mics to c...

Re: Blinded by the possibilities...
If you're using the preamps on your interface, than why plug into the mixer at all? you'd probably be better off (assuming the preamps in the interface are better than the ones on your mixer) just plugging the mic into the interface for the first two channels, and than using the mixer for the remain...
