Re: any neat ideas for a HUGE ROOM?
I'd second opening the door between the two spaces and recording drum ambience with it. The studio I work at has a huge unfinished concrete room, and we've been getting absolutely killer drum room sounds just by opening the door from our iso booth. Very lush, and very useable.

Xserve?
Anyone ever use an Apple XServe as a studio computer? The prospect of a 1U rackmount Mac is pretty nifty, if I do say so myself.

Re: Any of you solderheads ever built a PAiA Theremax?
I fried an IC in my Fatman. I have the desktop enclosure, and the too-flexible metal backpanel touched one of the ICs and killed it. Paia diagnosed it and replaced the IC, and added some spacers to keep it from happening again. I don't know if yours still falls under warranty, but Paia's customer s...

Re: Any of you solderheads ever built a PAiA Theremax?
...I have two PAiA kits on the floor next to my machine; a Fatman, and a theremax. I built the fatman a year ago and must've fried an IC, because I could never get the MIDI to work on it... The theremax belonged to a buddy of mine which he never finished. I guess I've had bad luck with PAiA kits, al...

Re: WTB: G4 tower or powerbook
Yeah, I just don't know about the minis. I mean, I'm a bit of an apple nerd, and I love it when they make neat-cased machines... but I'm super-skeptic on the laptop optical element. I've never had luck with laptop CD burners. And the one RAM slot is a little bit lame. But then again, it's a 1.4 gHz ...

WTB: G4 tower or powerbook
Hey all, My trusty iBook has finally bit the dust, and in true TapeOp fashion, I'd rather pick up someone else's leftovers and extras than pay up for a new G5! So, to all those fortunate enough to be upgrading their machines, I would be eternally grateful to buy your old comp. My budget is in the wh...

Re: Should I upgrade my Processor? Mac Question
If I remember correctly, most of those processor cards come with a firmware update or something to make them OSX-compatible, but they need to be installed before you load OSX. www.xlr8yourmac.com might have some good info on getting them to work correctly...

...How would swapping the 2.2k resistor for a 10k affect the circuit? Sorry for the idiot questions; I'm pretty new to electronics.

Re: Help! (Tape Op Omni Mic problems)
Well, I already found a few stupid mistakes on my "finished" board, so I pulled it apart and stuck it back on the breadboard. ...Problem is, it still doesn't seem to work. Same shit.
Anyway, here's what it looks like now.
Infinite thanks,

Re: Help! (Tape Op Omni Mic problems)
...Or here's my other worry. The original article made reference to an impedance-matching circuit inside the capsule, but I went ahead and got a different capsule that seemed to meet the requirements since the original wasn't in stock. Here's the capsule I've got - P9925-ND . ...Right? Wrong? Later, A

Re: Help! (Tape Op Omni Mic problems)
I just got a foot each of 1.5" and 1/4" acrylic from Tap Plastics along with some of those caps, and some plastic xlr connectors. Then I cut some discs out of some scrap plexiglas and glued 'em together, put the black caps on it to cover up my mistakes, and voila! Total cost for the cases was like, ...

Help! (Tape Op Omni Mic problems)
...So I've been working on a pair of those nifty Tape Op Omnis, and I thought I had the circuit built right, but when I go to check 'em with actual recording gear, the output is unusably low. Anyway, I took one of them apart and put it back together on a breadboard, and a curious situation results. ...
