Re: The bottom of the snare
I also always mic it and infrequently use it. I had an Audix D3 on it for awhile, and tried a few other things. Just a 57 on it right now (I mean I have a 441 but why waste it here?). At an angle similar to the top mic, but pointing at the wires, but sometimes also toward the bass drum head a little...

Re: VocAlign? or is there something that does this better?
I've used Melodyne to "create" harmonies (from the original vocal lines) and then use that so the singer can "hear" what the harmonies are supposed to be This is a great idea. I've yet to crack open Melodyne to see what/how it does, I believe I got a version with my recent PT license. it definitely...

Re: monitors
I start with my pair of Dynaudio BM6a mkii's that I got 10+ years ago. Then second opinion is the Fluid FX80's. They give me a little bit more extension on the low end. I'm not hearing any hiss out of my pair (but occasionally one of the LEDs doesn't come on). Maybe I'm not cranking them up loud eno...

I've used Melodyne to "create" harmonies (from the original vocal lines) and then use that so the singer can "hear" what the harmonies are supposed to be (can do a similar thing with a guitar or a keyboard). Then we track the harmony part until they hit it (and ditch the fake Melodyne harmonies). Bu...

never bought anything from them before, but Thomann had it for $71 (download, no tax) so I went ahead and got the perpetual license. I know I'll use it.

Re: VocAlign? or is there something that does this better?
Hi, The cheapest and best, not the fastest: The Singer Singing it until it is right. Barring that, how much is the Vocalign permanent license or subscription? Melodyne I don't think will align vocal s the same way. there are singers that can do this 100% (and don't need the help) and there are some...

VocAlign? or is there something that does this better?
My buddy gave me a license for Synchro Arts VocAlign Project 5 www.synchroarts.com/products/vocalign-project-5/overview?sku=VAPJ5 and I've been happily using this for the last year but now it shows it is expired (and this is exactly why I hate subscriptions). Apparently it was a 1 year "subscription...

Re: widening stereo sources in a mix
I forgot to mention that sometimes (and it really has to be the right kind of track because it definitely does not work on everything...) I'll use the SoundToys MicroShift plugin. Obviously it's made for vocals but sometimes it's cool, or weird, or both.

Re: widening stereo sources in a mix
A lot of DAWS (like I think Garageband, Logic, Cakewalk) always want to default to stereo tracks when exporting and sometimes when recording. So sometimes you end up with stereo tracks that were really mono tracks (or should be mono tracks). So invert one side and see if they null? If so, then just ...

The only downside to 500 series is that you will quickly develop "empty slot syndrome". And it has only one cure.

Re: OH and room drum mic Techniques
My drums are always setup, so for most everything I'm using a spaced pair. I was using a pair of AKG c414b-uls, but last year switched to a pair of Lauten LA220 v2 for overheads. Mainly so I could free up the 414's for other things. The Lauten's are a bit brighter, but they have some filter switches...

Re: Does the DAW interface I want exist?
ASIO4ALL is probably worth trying, otherwise it seems like you are probably at the mercy of the interface driver... meaning, waiting for something from ESI... and that might be unlikely?

Re: Does the DAW interface I want exist?
so is it worth it to outlay 3-4x more cash for convenience / ease of use for the edge case above? I think only you can decide that based on your needs. But are there other software (plugin or DAW routing?) solutions that might allow you to accomplish what you need? I'm not 100% clear if you are usi...
