Re: any recommendations on a distortion/overdrive pedal?
I somehow avoided trying out a tube screamer for like 15 years of guitar playing, when I finally did a couple weeks ago and MAN did it sound good. It was one of the newer ones with the extra distortion knob, and even playing through a solid state amp (JC-120, what a beast) it sounded really good. If...

Re: I'm getting my first "real" mic.....
I just bought my first real (as in better than a 57) mic today. Also an AKG. It's a 451. I think I overpaid just a bit but it's one of the old ones with twist-off capsules. I read here that Blue makes a capsule which is mighty nice. So far it seems to like exactly what everyone has said a SDC would ...

hm, girls? keyboard? brooklyn? dont-give-a-fuck recording quality? this wouldn't be an ELECTROCLASH band would it?
cause if it is, sleep mighty well knowing that stuff is soo over. when f-in' New York magazine says it's over, you better believe it's over.

Re: EQ AND COMPRESSION PLUG INS FOR MAC RTAS
they aren't free, but the URS Classic Console EQs are supposed to be really nice. They have a Neve-ish one, an API-ish one, and an SSL-knockoff. also, the sony oxford eq is supposed to be incredible. bombfactory and ua BOTH make Pultec plugins, the latter somewhat slandered. i haven't used any of th...

Re: Fourier analysis of Hard Day's Night chord, Jimi In A Bo
this pedal already exists in analog form, it's called the foxrox captain coconut. strat, marshall and talent not included. everything i've ever tried from digitech is a major piece of garbage. there's no way this thing even sounds passable. kinda funny how condescending they are in the article, too-...

Re: I hate all the reverb plugs or hardware I have ever hear
are you on a pc? try to track down a copy of Sonic Foundry Acoustic Mirror or the newer (last?) version of Sound Forge with it built in. it sounds GORGEOUS! it was way ahead of its time, blew me away when i first heard it. it may be these little orb speakers that i just happen to have hooked up, but...

Re: portastudio or stick with computer?
not to be fickle, but Nebraska was not done on a Tascam/Teac machine. it was done on a rather obscure Audio Technica four track. They didn't make a whole lot of em, and they were very hardcore. If you could dig up one of those (or one of the Marantz 4 tracks, damn they looked cool) you'd be pretty s...

Windows XP question
Hey all, I'm a Mac user, for general computer use, but I'm looking to put together a PC for doing some PT LE home recording. Someone posted link to Digi's site with some newegg links- very helpful! Anyway, my question is rather basic. I've never put together a computer from scratch before, so I sort...

Re: the best drum sound(in my opinion that is)
you know what i don't like? when there's overheads and seperate tom mics, and the rack tom is panned hard left, so that when you listen on headphones the perception is the tom is 4 feet to the left of the hihat and snare.. that really bothers me.

Re: Anyone built a compressor using this book?
Someone on one of the Audio DIY forums was selling kits of that project- you provide tubes and trannies. They looked NICE- dark blue metal chassis- but read around.. the whole thing is kinda shady... paypaling hundreds of dollars (i presume) to some dude with an icon of an infant smoking? whatever: ...

Re: Best (funniest) band website (meant to be serious)
that dungeons and dragons band made me think of that whole LARP'ing thing. you know, where you dress up and swing tin foil swords in peoples backyards. i've heard roommate-horror stories where said roommate would disappear for weeks and come back having LARPed the entire time.
