FS: Roland Tape Delay and TASCAM 2-Track

Looking to sell two items for pickup (someone willing to pickup in Minneapolis): TASCAM ATR60-2 (1/2 inch analog 2-track) ****SOLD**** Roland SRE-555 (analog tape delay/chorus/reverb) asking: $650 or reasonable offer I might be swayed in shipping the Roland SRE-555 but it's such a heavy item it'll r...

Sounds like it's either a calibration issue or the record-head is worn out. If you get a small signal from stuff you recorded, you might want to look into full calibration; nWb, azimuth, s/n-r, bias, degaussing (de-mag), and so on. Depends on where you live but you could probably find someone to tak...

The recordings on you MySpace doesn't sound that bad. I probably sense what you don't like about the drums. They sound rather dull and floppy. I'd push in favor of the Coles 4038's and a Manley Dual Mono pre. Are you going to mix the drums and perc tracks in mono again? If so, and you say you're gon...

Omni pencil-point reference mics like Eathworks and Josephson work really well. On days that I don't have time to fire up all my gear, I record my band's practices with a single Behringer ECM8000 set up against a wall, to create a boundary mic. That mic has made some good recordings that we use in ...

I really liked using a Neumann/Telefunken U47 longbody (tube) mic for such an application.

A SHURE SM90 is pretty good for someone within a budget.

Omni pencil-point reference mics like Eathworks and Josephson work really well.

AT4040 surprise!

I was hired as an engineer/producer and found a studio that fit the client's needs and my needs based on budget and room. I brought all my own mic pre's and microphones to the session and we set-up live (like we did a few years before). Then when we did some overdub tracks, I thought I'd take the ti...

I don't know specific years but I know at least 1930's to 1950's on these mics:

RCA 44BX
RCA BK5b
(2) RCA 74b
(2) Neumann/Gefell CMV563
Telefunken Ela M 032/2

I was the only one in the theater laughing hysterically during that part.

That reminds me of a band that came in to record and almost every other word was "questionable". They didn't care about radio play and I joked with them about if we did make a radio friendly mix the whole song would be one long beep... So, the main mix went pretty fast and I was feeling frisky... I ...

I have an Ernest Deffner "Canyon Reverb n Echo" oilcan tube delay. It sounds great. It only has a volume pot and a 3 selector delay knob. It's not versatile but when it works for a song (tempo-wise) it sounds wonderful. Regarding fixing or part replacement? I have no clue. Mine was in perfect shape ...

Everyone else said some really excellent things... I agree. Umz, I'd start by e-mailing all the studios in your area asking about intern positions. I suggest not sounding desperate or naive. Make it somewhat personal (identify the studio name and contact person in the e-mail), express your interest ...

It depends on the way a musician is asking for the different mic. I am the one who was irritated by a hired session musician asking for an inferior mic that might have sounded ok but was not right for the situation. I do not feel I am insecure. I have almost 20 years of doing this. The only time I ...

I studied Ambisonics on my own over a decade ago. I was saving up my money for the Calrec Soundfield but never quite made it. I was obsessed with Ambisonics and Binaural for many years. My focus went more toward Binaural over the years. Unfortunately I never got to use any Ambisonic techniques. The ...
