Re: PreSonus EQ3B?? Parametric EQ's

I don't know about the eq, but it is possible to get that TubePRE quiet. You have to split the gain between the "tube gain" and the regular gain. So dial up the tube gain to about 11 or 12, then add the rest of what you need from the other gain knob. I think you'll find it a lot quieter.

Re: DBX 118

A year or so ago the 117/118/119 units were going for $40-60 on eBay. They seem to have attained "cult" status since then.

Re: Quantegy closes its doors

If that report is true, it's not good. The fact that they laid off their employees that way is a bad sign. Many companies can keep functioning while restructuring under chapter 11. Look at United Airlines, for example. By locking the doors and putting up "no trespassing" signs, it looks like they ar...

Re: Ebay idiots

Sometimes I'll bid early just to lock in the auction, as technically the seller is not supposed to discontinue the item if there are bids. That still happens sometimes though. Also, sometimes a seller will have a starting bid and a buy it now price, but no reserve. So if you put in an early bid you ...

Re: ART PRo VLA; Made In China?

In my opinion, the problem with shipping manufacturing overseas is not only the lost jobs, but the lost expertise. Everytime a production gets moved offshore that's a lot fewer people here who either never learn the technical know-how, or gradually lose it from disuse. Sooner or later everybody basi...

Re: ART PRo VLA; Made In China?

It's basically impossible to live your life buying "Made in USA" only. It's much bigger than just where the ART PRO VLA gets made. The US trade deficit with China is $150 *billion*. This year alone it's going to be $18 billion. That's a lot of PRO VLA's, and some other stuff thrown in. Even made in ...

Re: My first major label project!...What a mess (long)

My advice is that you shouldn't put any of your own money into the project. Or, as they say in the investment business, don't invest any money that you can't afford to lose. So assume you will lose whatever money you put into it, and if you've got that kind of cash to spare, then go for it. Maybe yo...

Re: Amplifiying a keyboard

I use a Roland KC-300 and it's a great keyboard amp. Sounds wonderful, has multiple inputs, eq, and is designed for use with keyboards. The new version is called the KC-350. I recommended it to a keyboardist recently and she's extremely happy with hers. The KC-300/350 sounds better than the KC-150 i...

Re: New Ebay Scammer...

You can tell a lot by the sellers response to direct questions. For example, one seller claimed his item worked perfectly and was new, and that he'd never even turned it on. The product was not in the box, and was mounted in a rack in the photo. So I asked him how he could know it worked perfectly i...

Re: Stand Alone Keyboard Module

The B3 expansion is good. I think you have to get into the dedicated organ keyboards and more expensive modules to beat it though. I'm not really a big B3 person, so what I get with the expansion board is really good enough. A true B3 aficionado would probably find plenty of faults with it. I also h...

Re: New Ebay Scammer...

That's a good link, thanks. I talked to a guy a few weeks ago who had almost gotten ripped off by a fake escrow company. This is another scam of which everyone should be aware. The way it works is that the scammer sets up a fake escrow web site (the guy I talked to said the site looked incredible, v...

Re: Looking for a good reverb unit

I used to own an M2000, but got a Rumour and much preferred it. I actually sold both the M2000 and the Rumour and now have the KSP8. But the Rumour sounds as good as the KSP8 in my opinion, it's the best sounding box in it's price category, in my opinion.

Re: Stand Alone Keyboard Module

It depends on how much you want to spend, but the JV-1010 would be a good choice if you also put a JV expansion board into it. I think there is one with organs on it. The Emu Vintage Pro has some good organs, I have that box, but it is a full rack space in size. Emu created a box dedicated to the B3...

Re: Analog vs. Digital Debate: Over?

I agree with nestle: why choose? Both analog and digital have their advantages, so just use them together. When I hear people say analog sounds "better" what I think they mean is it sounds "more pleasing" to the ear. And I would absolutely agree with that. However, I really don't believe it's better...
