>>Save that $100 on that Beatles book and go have a nice dinner with your woman. You?ll reap more rewards.<< Or, if the book teaches you to BE EXPERIMENTAL and try new things, it may be a wise investment, applicable for your whole life in music. This is truly the lesson of the Beatles work, and I do...

Mixed outtakes for upcoming UK reissue CDs.

Music by Judee Sill (on of the greatest writers ever), and David Ackles. Both dead now, both very talented. It's great to hear such good music, no matter what the circumstances.

Whoa. Hold on - there's a LOT of misinformation here. I have had the multitracks of Rumours (and a few others) up when we were doing WBros research for the reissues. The drum track was NOT recorded one drum at a time. The tape was NOT worn out. The drum tracks "that took weeks" to set up were for "T...

In almost all cases, they get a good balance, and when you take things out of the studio - they sound BETTER, which is the opposite effect of what you get on most monitors. Again - so keep in mind the basic idea of "monitor effect"; what they LACK, you get more of, what they BOOST, you get less of. ...

The book is essentially done/written. BUT that means there are photos to license and the people who helped us are now proofreading it all. But, everyone has given it stellar reviews so far, which is a good sign, as they are people who worked there back in the day. We'll post some news on the website...

The Chandler gear is cool - it is a reproduction of the 1969 and later EMI stuff. People really seem to like their sound, it's universally popular, although it only covers the last Beatle's album, sonically. Even the Revolution preamp does not cover the whole of Beatles records - just the portion in...

I would say there is a significant effect due to the gear they used; Especially the mic preamp and certain EQs. Most people have never used an EMI mic preamp, as they are so rare. But there is one made - called Revolution, very expensive, but it works as it should and sounds great. It has the charac...

There is a fundamental problem with gates - it only turns off the signal sometimes . When someone hits the gated tom or snare channels, and high hat leaking suddenly JUMPS UP in the mix; this is worse than constant hat leakage, as it draws attention by popping in and out when the gate opens. Mic tec...

There are MANY more Shining cues and bits in her new CD's "Lost Scores"; some of her very best work is on there, suprisingly for "outtakes". Terry Riley used a Farfisa live, I used to have the same exact model - I don't like the music myself, so I beg to be excused! Best work from her - VERY hard to...

"Beauty in the Beast" is one of the few "alternate tuning" records (from someone with a western academic background) I've heard that is actually good, listenable music. Well worth checking out. My favorite in that category is Terry Riley's "Shri Camel"--all done on a Yamaha combo organ customized w...

The "Recording the Beatles" book is different than Mark Lewisohn's work - his Recording Sessions is a "who and when" book, ours is more "how and what". Mark Lewisohn has been a great help in our work, and is certainly the best author in the Beatles book world (Kevin Ryan, who has done covers and art...

I would say to buy by brand; what SOUNDS and FEATURES you will be needing. Format you will know (1/2" or 2" 24-track, etc.) Studer is most expensive, they tend to sound good, bot great, but they are the industry standard. Mainly because they have modern features (well, newer ones do) and are more re...

Love this one: "Do not wave at a performer unless seated. Good studio practice minimizes all Standing Waves." That BEAUTY IN THE BEAST album recommended above is a real monster: all unheard sounds, playing all unheard music - AND it's listenable, as he said. And Clockwork Orange is amazing too. Swit...

How would you say it works after the mod? I love using a Dolby card as-is for bringing up the HF on low level stuff, and it darkens as things get louder - a good setup for acoustic guitar etc.

Does this distort, or add HF dynamically?
