TNC ACMP-73 and Yamaha PM1000 preamps
For sale: (2) x TNC ACMP-73 preamps with EQ. I've had these since the group buy years ago. Some people had issues with noise, but mine are quiet as a mouse. Lots of info on the web about these. They are basically Neve clones. Some folks have put original Carnhill transformers in them with good resul...

I bought an RE20 off eBay years and years ago and could never use it because it had a weird grounding issue where it would make little pops now and again, totally randomly. It also didn't sound as good as I knew it should. It was an older one, though. About two years ago I sent it to Ben at www.micd...

I understand your reluctance to go with UAD (I was there for years), but I bet you've never heard them. I've spent a lot on Waves and other Native plugs, and have a TC Powercore as well, but Uad is hands down the best sounding stuff out there. For Native, the main thing I'm interested in at the mom...

Again, I appreciate all the suggestions. As much as I'm tempted by the UAD stuff, I'm going to stay away. I don't like the idea of being locked into the format and my guess is that they will have to go native at some point. Modern computers are just getting too powerful to make external DSP worthwhi...

These are great suggestions, folks. I appreciate it! I usually do let someone else mix the stuff for me or at the very least give him stems to work from. This time I just feel like flying solo, to see if I can do it. It is tough to know when to say "Enough is enough!" and I always have the nagging t...

$1000 worth of basic native mixing plug-ins - your choice?
Hi folks, It's been a long time since I last posted here. I've been touring a lot and not recording much but I have a new album in the works from my jazz trio (Hammond / guitar / drums) that I decided to mix myself this time around. I tracked our last album four years ago in my home studio but didn'...

McMaster-Carr 7122A12 - 22 cents each. I don't recall a minimum order, shipping will be a few bucks though. There are plenty of places online that have them for cheap, but the point is I'm trying to avoid paying ridiculous shipping costs and wait times to get something someone might just have any n...

Howard was a subsidiary of Baldwin. Acrosonics are generally good pianos. I'm a little surprised that it was described as "dark" here; usually they are just the opposite due to old hammers that have become hard over time. The Yamaha U series is fantastic. You really can't get much better than that f...

True, but you could say that about any piece of vintage vs. modern gear; reconditioned microphones, even  Indeed. But the thing about vintage vs. modern gear is that while different, one is not inherently better than the other, despite what we may want to believe. They are just different. Ana...
