Re: DACHMAN U87 kit

for an extra $100 you can buy the serrano 87 already assembled. i haven't tried the Dachman, but the Serrano is awesome! you can also find Beesneez used often for $500 or so. No pad or other patterns, but they make awesome mics!

FS: Ludwig LM402, KSM137 pair, Sound Devices Mix Pre3

- Ludwig LM402 Supraphonic snare. Pretty sure it was B stock. Like new condition. Barely used. 6.5x14. the most recorded snare drum out there! $460 shipped - Shure KSM 137 pair (not matched technically, but I have used them as such without issue). with case and mic clips. These are not pretty but ar...

Re: I don't need another ribbon...or do I?

I have a shit ton of ribbons but the ones I use the most are my modded Apex 205s (have 3 Joly modded and another pair similarly modded). I have heard these can sound comparable to 4038s, but haven’t been able to compare, admittedly. Sometimes I bust out my m160 or my Stager SR-2N. I have used Royer ...

Re: Name 3 core mics

If versatility is key and one mic at a time will do, I’d honestly push for a solid workhorse. The Serrano 87 is awesome! It has unseated my U195/414B ULS for first call in those kinda situations where I don’t wanna (or can’t) pull out a fancy tube condenser. If multiple mics are critical: I would sn...

Re: My Massive Preamp Comparison

I have a preamp shootout I wanna share, too!! I gotta wait til a record comes out (used the guitar DI for Reamping). I mostly did it to see if I could justify keeping my UA 2108 (one had just sold for $3k!) and I had just bought Audioscape’s take on it - v108. I used several other pres for shits and...

Re: Channel Strip Plugins

i have so many damn channel strips, but I almost never use them. I haven't used the UAD API in a good while, but when I did, it was to push the pre and use the EQ. I usually reach for the brainworx G series when I'm tracking just cuz it's a low CPU hit and I can usually put it on something without t...

Re: UAD Spark

Anyone else feel like UA plugs are starting to wane? I have barely bought any from them in the last few years and I find I’m using them less and less. Granted, I still use them on every mix but with computers getting more powerful and other developers really upping their game (and most charging far ...

Re: Mic stands in 2022?

K&M have gone downhill in recent years. The ones I bought back in 2001 are doing better than ones I bought within the last 5-7 years. I’ve already had to replace parts on the newer ones while the old guys are going strong. I will say that even the bigger K&M I wouldn’t trust with my money mics place...

FS: mics, outboard

paring down my mic locker as well as some outboard. I have a lot of redundant stuff, so some things can find a new home. In many cases, I just have multiples and don't need as many. Here's what I've got: Lawson L47FET - $1050. love this thing, just don't need 2 of them Hairball Audio 1176A with oran...

I wonder if having someone you trust cut the lacquers would take some of the QC issues out of this question? I almost never let the plant cut them. might save you some $$ as well.

Re: Cymbals/How far to go

i'm a 5B basher and have been cracking cymbals for much of the 25 years I've been playing. I kept a few that had sentimental value and recently sent two busted rides to a local cymbal maker to machine them down into a pair of 16" hihats. It was like $150 and well worth it to give some busted cymbal...

Re: What mics for female rock vocalist (alto)? Plus a couple vocal recording questions

Of the mics you listed in your locker, I would probably reach for the SM7 first. But if she is pretty quiet, it might be a little on the noisy side, depending on your mic pre situation. I've never used a KSM32, but I would probably try that next. 4050s seem a little thin/hollow to me on most things ...

Re: Plug-in suggestions for the minimalist studio

oh and UAD stuff I can't live without:
33609, 1176s, LA2A (mkII), Ocean Way Studios (I don't have a big live room anymore)

honorable mention: Studer, Pultecs

I'd second that the Soundtoys little plate is easier and faster to use than the UAD 140.
