Oh well, it was worth a shot.
Thanks.

Re: FS: Tascam 238 8track cassette rackmount.
Hey- I picked one of these up used. I really like mine. I think it sounds really good compared to my porta one. Not to hijack your thread or anything, I know you're trying to make a sale here, but did your 238 come with rack ears? or did you have to track those down separately -and if so where did y...

Re: Ampex preamps (how do I rack 'em) ?
Yep- that be the one. The knobs remind me of an old black and white tv set. Seriously one of the ugliest tape machines I've ever seen. I dont know if I have the skills to modify anything on this unit. I guess I could use it as is. It does have line outs (rca) from the preamps. the problem is that ju...

Ampex preamps (how do I rack 'em) ?
I have an old Ampex R>R player that is pretty trashed. I think its a 2000 series- kind of weird looking. But the pres seem to work and I'd like to remove them from the rest of the unit and use them. Anyone know of any info online that might guide me through a project like this? thanks in advance. -J...

got my Toft ATC-2 the other day.
I'm going crazy cause I've been too busy to really see how it sounds. And I'm a little scared of gear in this dreaded price range. Its not expensive enough to be considered "pro" , and its not cheap enough to make it ok on my wallet if it ends up sounding like crap. When I get it going I'll let y'al...

How do I determine the ohm rating of an amp?
I have an old Plush royal bass amp head that I've been messing around with. I have it plugged in to an old Jensen 12" speaker and it sounds pretty damn good though I can't really turn it up past about 2. I don't really know the ohms for the amp or the speaker. Anybody know an easy way to figure this...

I really love some of the work i've heard of his. especially Modest Mouse's Moon & Antarctica and the Fruit Bats Echolocation.
Anybody got any other suggestions for stuff of his I should check out?

Re: Mixing from DAW to tape deck-(help me understand)
thanks Joel- then it sounds like my money would be better spent on a decent mixing desk rather than a stereo tape deck.

Mixing from DAW to tape deck-(help me understand)
I kind of feel like a dumbass for asking this but oh well. I'm thinking of getting a stereo open reel deck so that i can mixdown from PTLE on to tape. thus avoiding "bouncing to disk". If I were to do this then how exactly would I take my final mixes to the mastering house? would i need to put the s...
