I have an old Plush royal bass amp head that I've been messing around with. I have it plugged in to an old Jensen 12" speaker and it sounds pretty damn good though I can't really turn it up past about 2. I don't really know the ohms for the amp or the speaker. thanks Joel- then it sounds like my money would be better spent on a decent mixing desk rather than a stereo tape deck.

I kind of feel like a dumbass for asking this but oh well. I'm thinking of getting a stereo open reel deck so that i can mixdown from PTLE on to tape. thus avoiding "bouncing to disk".
