I always thought it sounds like an octavia pedal. Not saying that's what it is, just what it sounds like.

Awesome. That's the funniest thing I've read on TOMB in a long time. (And I really like The Flaming Lips).

Right, that's what I'd like to do, but I don't know if I want to deal with installing pushbutton switches. I'm lazy! Toggles would be easier and cheaper, but not as useful. Small rotaries might work though. Rotaries would be slick. two toggles for each channel (substituting toggles for the folcrom ...

The thing I'm having the most trouble deciding is how to handle the L/R/Mono/(off?) issue for each channel. Include it? Make it just L/R/Mono without an off? A three-way toggle sounds the most attractive; that means no "off", but I don't think it should matter. The folcrom box seems to be very clev...

Here's a thread where a bunch of very knowledgeable folks walk an electronics newbie through building a passive one of these: http://www.prodigy-pro.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10803 Further, I believe the smpro thing has make-up gain on the end, i.e. it is actually active. Given the price point, migh...

I'll second that. They select everything for you, so you just need to go slow.

It's a great way to start, and it looks like you'll wind up with a groovy pedal.

Yeah, do try to get aluminum. Machining steel in a little home set up is a major pain in the keister (sp?).

Ah, the cher thing

Sounds like you could get this with an obsessive compulsive pitch correction plug-in. (That's what everyone thought was used for the cher song, but apparently it was a more elaborate set up including a vocoder or something)

If you think it will be fun and want to learn, go for it. I built some home stereo speakers a few years ago. The basic deal seems to be that you won't make anything cheaper than the really cheap stuff, but that you will make something of higher quality for about the price of the medium-cheap stuff. ...
