Here's the amp http://paia.com/hda.htm Here's the schematic http://paia.com/hdasch.pdf I don't know why I didn't just buy the kit--peversity I suppose. Anyway, it sounded okay, was cheap cheap cheap, b...

When I say home, it was just a hole in the ground covered by a sheet of tarpaulin, but it was a house to us.

Re: DIY omni pick-up pattern question...

Hey all, I understand how a mic with open grills on both sides of it's capsule could work as an omni directional pick-up pattern, but how does the DIY mic function as an omni if it's capsule's backside is completely encased/covered by the shell/case/chassis? Thanks...Joey D! I know it's counter-int...

I have a "stepper bit" that goes up to 1".

Not as smooth as a single purpose jobbie, much less a punch, but it gets the job done for many different sized holes.

so I guess I can just use a little bit of wire jumper for each, right?
You're welcome.

That's right, a little jumper. (Just make sure they don't touch, if you're using uninsulated wires.)

These guys are very reasonable. I don't know if they have a 60's style kit, but they are pretty cool folks and could probably make a reccomendation.

If that's the case, there's something going on there that I don't understand. Maybe someone will come along and enlighten... Far be it from me to enlighten anyone, but here's how I think about it: The pot is a voltage divider: Some of the signal is going to ground and some to the amp (and thus to g...

All the volume pot does is add resistance. It's not going to change your sound. It can change the sound a bit, in that the value of the pot determines the total resistance when the knob is all the way up. This matters on the tone because some amount of highs will always be leaking off, but the amou...

how about making a pair of tape op omnis? has anyone compared them directly to the fancier stuff mentioned in this thread? i wonder how they measure up. I was wondering that too, especially with the slightly more upscale "linkwitz" mod from this guy: http://www.mp3forkidz.com/mic/mod.html You could...

I give it an F. Two disclaimers: 1) I'm a little homerecording dork, not a pro with years of recording real plexis and ac30s and tweed deluxes and whatever 2) I'm more of a bass player than a guitar player That being said, the old pod 2.0 (not even the xt) often sounds great to me, and serves me an...
