Re: Hail to the thief

As far as an extensive internet search could tell, the new Radiohead was mastered at Abbey Road, a place usually known for impeccable mastering work. IMO the new album is pretty darn good, and I'm always excited to hear a new Radiohead/Godrich production. The new Grandaddy is darn good too. As is th...

Re: TapeOp Con - Thank you!!!!

Thanks to everyone for coming, participating, and having fun. The energy was so positive and exciting I think we all ran on adrenalin for a few days. In answer to a few "complaints/ideas" above, we didn't schedule a lunch break as there was so much to try and squeeze in. I'm not sure how it worked a...

Engineer: A person skilled in any branch of engineering. Engineering: The science of making practical application of pure sciences, as physics, chemistry, etc., as in the construction of engines, buildings, etc. I see no mention of a degree there. If you are skilled and are using a practical applica...

Re: LD Tube mic w/out exagerrated high end?

The Soundelux E47 is considerably darker sounding than the Elux 251, I own and frequently A/B them on singers. I have a Brauner Valvet Voice and it's sorta bright but in a very nice way, clears up soggy singers. The Manley Cardiod reference is bright and scooped in the mids but perfect for a singer ...

That Digitech M-???? that I reviewed in the last Tape Op is $200 and has a lot of features plus will accept S/PDIF I/O so you can stay digital if you want. I think the sounds are very good for the price...

Yeah, sorry about the misunderstanding about the Jackpot! pre-party thing. It's meant to be a get together for Tape Op writers, panelists and volunteers. There's not enough room for 500 guests!!!! Go see Junior Private Detective if you can. They're great, we'll be finishing their mixes Weds night at...

Re: Hamptone

Scott Hampton is a man of very fine moral fibre. The fact that he let Tape Op give away his mic pre circuit and knowledge, and then posted numerous updates on his site, and put the kit into limited production for little or no profit should clue you in. I have the Silverbox 4, and it is one of the fi...

Re: Pleasure Forever - Alter

That record was a blast to make. I didn't get to see them play live until after recording the album, and they rocked. There's a comp track we did too coming out on some "buddyhead" thing through Nettwerk, whatever buddyhead is. On the album we did a lot of changing drum mics around from song to song...

I didn't know the people at EQ hate us! Why were we all hanging out having drinks together at AES in LA then?
