there's no way to know what it is that they think sounded like ass I'm glad someone at least brought this up. I was reading some of those threads and thinking along the same lines--everyone assumed a "snare drum" sounds like a "snare drum". But what defines a "snare drum" and what makes it good or ...

I had the original DPS and then I "upgraded" to the Digital MPA. I say upgraded because many a snob will tell me that pre sucks. Well, Ok, but financially I haven't quite justified the need for a rack full of Neve pres. Anyway, the MPA is pretty cheap now and I recommend replacing the stock tubes (I...

Ok, just thought I'd update my own post in case anyone else tries this. I decided to go with new JJ/Tesla 12AX7's from www.eurotubes.com. Bob was very helpful--replied quickly and shipped quickly. I did a quick comparison (Studio Projects C3, vocal and acoustic guitar) and immediately noticed better...

or for fun, assuming you are on a DAW, try doubling the snare track (or room mics) and re-amping it through something like Amplitube. You can really fatten up (or completely phuc up) a drum track this way. then mix a bit of that in. it's amazing.

Tenor sax player in my band carries an EV NDseries with him. I thought it was a 257, but the pictures I see don't match. his is not a handheld type mic.. it looks more like this one: http://www.electrovoice.com/Electrovoice3/products.nsf/pages/ND468 It might be a ND468 or ND408--I saw one listed on ...

Ok, I gotta cast a vote for KT Tunstall's Eye to The Telescope . I don't what it is but I can't seem to get it out of my CD player. I had to buy an import cause it doesn't actually release in the USA until later this month (I think). I guess then, it will get overplayed and I'll probably stop listen...

SATA II drives won't help you any if your controller is not SATA II also. SATA II drives/hbas may also benefit from the addition of NCQ (native command queuing) which allows the drives to process more than a single outstanding command (traditional ATA must complete every single command before accept...

most good full range mics will pick up a gnat farting in another room, so maybe some noise abatement is a better investment for you first?

another good DIY shaker is the plastic container that the Crystal Light lemonade/teas come in. Put some rice, beans, BB's, etc in it for different sounds. I also used "gorilla glue" to make sure the top doesn't come off (ever). I have several different versions of these.
