Where do you get these kits? Can't find them on the lazpro.com website, but I'd be interested in trying my hand at them...

Is it that hard to do? I feel like I'll pay a tech $100 for him to tell me, "looks fine." Not saying that I am putting a minor price on my safety and my life. Of course it's better to be safe than sorry. But I followed every bit of instruction available for this basic conversion... And like I said, ...

Looking to help out at an NYC-area studio

I'm looking to start work at a studio in NYC as an assistant engineer, session drummer, or paid intern. (I know paid sounds ridiculous, but I'm looking to have an income while doing what I love.) I have many years of experience recording, producing, and playing with bands in project studios. I'm a m...

Okay, here are some pics of my rewiring. Does this look right? http://www.jonathanwing.com/uploads/amp-rewire-2.jpg http://www.jonathanwing.com/uploads/amp-rewire-1.jpg Note how I said the ground wire is attached to the pin of the tube holder that is attached directly to the chassis. When I check wi...

Re: Help, I'm getting shocked by my guitar!

Is the other side of the death cap still connected? Nah, I soldered all of it off on both sides. But one thing to note, rather than attaching the green wire to one of the transformer pins as some people suggest, I soldered the green wire to the pin above the tube holder that is directly connected t...

Help, I'm getting shocked by my guitar!

So I recently acquired a small 1962 Gibson Skylark GA-5 amp, which has a 2-prong cord. After getting quite a buzz a few days ago while playing the guitar, I did research and learned that it would be best to convert the amp to 3-prong so that it would be safely grounded. I'm not concerned about amp r...

is it just one OSA or multiple? do you know which model they are? All of them, in various slots. I believe they are the OSA MP1c's. is your API lunchbox grounded properly? not using a ground lift plug on it, or a power strip it's plugged into, etc.? I'm not sure. I would think so. But I have not tr...

You might also measure Volts AC on the phantom lines. One thing you can try: plug in the mic cable, without a mic, and measure the phantom between pins 1 and 2 (and also 1 and 3) of the mic cable. Okay, so I tried this, and I was getting a reading of 47.8v with phantom power. Is that normal? Should...

The only thing I can think of is the phantom power. Maybe you could get a DMM and take a look at what voltage is actually being applied to the mic and then see if it's out of spec? Compare that number to the one from the box that works with the AT4050. It is possible the 414 is immune to an issue w...

Re: white noise

Check the cable, I brought home an at4033se and with first cable there was noise and I though it was broken. Next cable everything was fine. Well I tried other cables, and also the same cables that were fine in other experiments. So it's not that... Wow. Welcome back to TOMB, wing. It's been a whil...

Dale Pro Audio on 19th has some parts and the people there are pretty helpful. But for more electronic geekery, check out 269 Electronics on Canal St: http://www.nycresistor.com/2009/09/16/269-electronics/ "Bottom line: it?s not exactly Fry?s, but for hardware hackers in New York City, it?s definite...

AT4050 and OSA pre not getting along...

Hey there, I recently purchased an AT4050 mic and I've found that when I plug it in to my OSA pre-amps (in an API lunchbox) and apply 48v, it sounds great for about 5 seconds, and then a huge amount of white noise shows up and the mic itself becomes significantly quieter. Now, the thing is, I also t...

Okay? perhaps my example wasn't the best. But part of what knits us together is what we are and do when we're not recording. Again, I'm not saying we should be all over off-topic stuff... I am just wondering, if ever I want to ask a serious question about something that doesn't necessarily directly ...

Question

I understand that TOMB is moving to being less off-topic and more about recording; but what forum do we possibly go when we want to wish someone a happy birthday, or ask a question about culture, society, politics, etc., that may indirectly affect music and recording? I'm not pushing for off-topic, ...
