I have an older version of the RME ADI-8 that is supposed to do SMUX (I only have ADAT on my Digi 002r though). The latest version does also. I would like to test drive one of the RME UFX some day. Looks like a great unit. My only concern is that my Digi 002r is Black Lion modded so it sounds pretty...

wow and what a deal! Only $299 for an upgrade. I am really tired of Avid's "upgrades". Especially since there are still many unresolved issues with PT9. Don't get me wrong, I like PT9, and I have learned to work around most of the issues that I have encountered. but this is the world we live in... A...

I sprung for the Advanced Audio CM-47 a bit ago and it did well on some vocal tracks. I also liked it in front of the kick (outside) but lately I've had a Mojave MA-201fet parked there. I really like what it does with a little EQ and a DBX160X or even an 1176 plugin sometimes

back to the OP... I tried some of the Audio Maintenance Limited 5003D (considered a 1073-ish design) pre's on overheads (with AKG 414b-uls) and did not like them. Too scratchy/dirty sounding - the cymbals just did not work for me. For drum room mics they were OK. On vocals, that pre just kills. its ...

thanks Justin - great article. I've used my pair of B-ULS on so many sessions and never been disappointed. It's nice to understand the history now too!

I have a pair of K Custom Dark 13's too and they are way different than the mastersounds. They are darker and not extremely loud. I've used them in the studio and live. when I needed a little more volume live, I switched to the 60's new beats - they sounded fairly similar. not all 13" hats are evil....

you also can't go wrong with a pair of 14" New Beats - but beware there are many flavors even though they have the same name. I have a pair that are 60's 'ish and they are warm and beautiful - could be used for jazz or rock. I have another pair that was probably late 80's or early 90's and the top c...

+1 for the blues junior. I also have an Egnater Tweaker combo - it's really versatile too.

put whichever is shorter to type, or easier to remember on your biz card. then redirect one (or more) to the other.

are you sure you are not getting a sympathetic ring from one of the tom heads? if you take the snare in another room do you still hear the ring? I've just never had a bottom snare head that rang for 5 seconds - especially when the snare wires are engaged because that effectively chokes or mutes the ...

I also have a BLA tweakhead 002r and I'm using LLM with PT9 and it works pretty good for me. I can definitely tell the difference if I have it over 64 samples or forget to check LLM. big difference!

cool, good to know that PT9 can see them as one unit - not so sure I would be so lucky with Windows though.

7 months or so since I started this thread... in my fantasies I have a 1U rackmount interface with 24 channels of I/O, main monitor outs, and a couple headphone jacks. Actually it looks a lot like the Motu 24IO but maybe if it had a BLA mod... (I don't think they do it). I do like my Black Lion modd...
